Radiation /Scan advice

So bit of context im mid 30s female , normal weight non smoker non drinker . Since birth of my 3rd child experienced extreme joint pain and flu like symptoms along with chronic swollen lymph nodes under armpits .
Went to gp scanned and told reactive nodes but no worrying feautures . Bloods done all good apart from Strongly positive Ana , referted to Rheumatology who done further bloods and chest xray both normal aside from anti body present -told undifferentiated mixed connective tissue disease and may never develop into anything - kind of a watch and wait . Was also diagonsed fibro .

Now here is issue - ive also had progressive night sweats and chest pain when breathing - doctor said highly unlikely lymphoma but to rule out swollen glands in chest i could have ct scan of chest . My issue is , how high the radiation is - is there a way of doing chest ct as low dose or would that not be an option viewing lymph nodes ? Advice needed as sadly i had a lot of radiation in my pregnancy and dubious about any further ?

Any advice welcome !!!

get it done, why is your Gp leaning one way rather than the other?

Lkakpk · 10/11/2024 20:26

@janeavrilavril gp referred to rheumatology . Rheumatology dont believe its lymphoma but for my peace of mind think i should go for chest ct scan . Im just scared re radiation ans want to know if it can be done low dose ? I do have health anxiety which makes it worse all round !

I can't answer you on whether the dose of radiation can be lowered or if different for different scan regions. But I would weigh up the 2 options; fear of extra radiation as opposed to peace of mind and chance that something has been missed particularly with your specific symptoms. Take the ct scan and don't look back.

Sounds like a health anxiety issue. What made you exposed to radiation in pregnancy.

AudiobookListener · 11/11/2024 13:57

I've had three CTs. Two of them years ago when the radiation was much higher. Still here. Not worried. I would get it done and get on with my life.
