When I had blood tests (age related...over 50) this came back abnormal. No explanation though? Can anyone decipher it please? TIA

They are all in the normal range.

Might be worth asking for further interpretation and advice, because these are all completely normal blood test results.

They are in normal ranges, not sure what’s come back abnormal

These say that you are in perfect health. That's great.

If you want to understand it, you look at each line one at a time. On each line, your result is the number shown before the brackets. The "normal range" is shown within the brackets on the same line.

e.g. your sodium level is 141 and that's great because the normal range is between 133 and 146.

If you would like to understand the bigger picture this is what you need to know:

This test is a lot about checking how your kidneys work. The kidneys are like a cleaning machine that cleans all the rubbish out of your blood and then empties the rubbish away in your urine, while returning the clean blood back into your body. When the blood goes back into your body from your kidneys it should be lovely and clean, with the right amount of salt, if they are working well.

For the individual lines:

Sodium is what you get from table salt and salty foods.

Potassium is a bit like sodium but you get it more from things like vegetables, potatoes and coconut water, among other things.

Creatinine is a thing that your body makes when it breaks down the proteins in meat. If your kidneys weren't working or you were very dehydrated, then you might have too much creatinine, because the kidneys wouldn't be washing it out in your urine. Your kidneys are doing really well, and you are well hydrated, as your number is good.

Urea is another kind of rubbish that your kidneys wash away and excrete in your urine.

The GFR is a number that is calculated from the others. If your kidneys are good then it tends to be high, as yours is. If it was low (like 30) then your GP would tell you to drink more and come back for a retest next week, but yours is fine.

You are in normal range for everything, so that's really splendid. Great stuff!

Thank you so much everyone. I did ask but the receptionist said something about cholesterol and not to worry. But said abnormal at the top of the result? All other tests were OK.
I'll stop worrying now.
