Leg pain while trying to sleep

I’ve had this on and off for years but recently ramped up massively. When I go to bed I often start to feel twinges in my legs and feet which generally turn in to full on painful cramps that I need to stand up to relieve. It is always just as I am dropping off and can last from a few minutes to a whole night of disturbed sleep. It’s so exhausting and painful. Anyone else suffer from this? Have tried hydration, bananas and tonic water but o am never sure if it is working or am just going through a phase where I don’t get them. Last night I was awake all night hopping around. I’m totally exhausted. Anyone else suffer the same and have any miracle cures?

Could it be restless leg syndrome?

Have you spoken to your GP?

I know someone who has this and takes medication

Magnesium might help; you can get a spray to put on your legs which helped me with restless legs and I take magnesium tablets too. Sympathies, it’s exhausting and so frustrating!

Had something similar, turned out to be sciatica. I found stretching exercises really helped, found some on YouTube. It, of course, it depends what's causing the pain. Maybe go to your GP for a diagnosis?

Bananas are on the right lines because it's usually both a magnesium and potassium deficiency. I take both, have done for six years now, gone from nightly debilitating cramps to almost never.
I'll go over to my laptop and post the links to the ones I take. From Amazon because it's good value and these are supplements I'm totally committed to taking because they really work for me.

Sounds like restless leg syndrome. I've had this for years after I had my second DC. I've got my ferritin levels up (iron stores) and it's completely gone after years. I also found sleeping in a grounding sheet helped me as well.

It's awful. You can get a ferritin lateral flow test from boots to see if it's low. If so, supplement with iron and vit c. Vit c helps the iron absorb and stops stomach ache. I take 2x ferrous fumerate iron daily. Mine is low because I have very heavy periods

thanks for your responses…I’ve been looking at the nhs pages on restless leg syndrome off the back of your messages and it sounds like it is RLS…I’m oddly relived it has a name! Will try some of your suggestions…strangely felt compelled to have a hot bath last night before bed and that seemed to help then I noticed the NHS recommmed that as a treatment too. Am going to get my iron levels check out too.
thanks everyone. It’s nice to know I’m not alone
