Itchy face & burning sensation

Over the last few weeks I've noticed that I've been feeling hot on my face - especially after a glass of wine when I look a little red across my cheekbones. I have always blushed easily - hate the feeling!

For the last week I've had a swollen eyelid and itchy eye - not sure if that's related! Yesterday & today my face feels sunburnt - doesn't look it and haven't been in the sun, but feels hot and very itchy especially under my eyes, across my nose & cheekbones, on my forehead and my neck. it's driving me mad. I do suffer from hayfever, but have usually itchy eyes & nose and not itchy skin.

I haven't used any different soaps or anything and don't wear make up so can't be that. What is it?

it could be some of the things that are put into wine...cant remember the name.

Try organic wine as these things arent added.

could also be a touch of roseace which I suffer from and I should avoid hot tea and coffee, red wine and the sun!

Psychomum5 · 26/04/2008 20:45

oooh....sounds like a wine allergy.

you won;t react to all wines, just those with (I think), sodium benzoate(??).

I too react to certain wines.....white more that red, but then I have allergies to certain fruits too which aggravates things!

I had the itchy face before the wine! I could try organic wine to help with the flushed face. It's the itchiness that's driving me mad.

What is roseace?

HELP - The itching is driving me crazy. I just want to sit with my face immersed in water all day. What can I put on it?

Go to your local pharmacist and get some antihistamines and some antihistamine cream.

They might recommend some mild hydrocortizone cream, or if it looks bad enough, advise you to see GP.

Then sit down and think about every possible thing that you might have been in contact with - from washing powder through to face cream, just in case there is something you haven't thought of.

You could also try doing some patch tests on your inner arm and see if anything provokes a reaction.

HTH

ps if you live near large areas of grass, has anyone been out cutting the grass? Dd has developed an allergy to grass cutting that she didn't have last year, and has been scratching like mad.

Psychomum5 · 28/04/2008 14:07

oooh....sorry....missed this from the other day.

you are still suffering??? poor you.

I still think allergy, but you should really get to the docs for advice before putting anything on it, or maybe the local chemist would be suffice.

cold flannel for now tho??

3littlefrogs - I have taken loratadine today for my hayfever. I didn't take it yesterday and my face was really itchy, however still itching having taken it.

Can you get an itchy face with hayfever? I've had hayfever since my teens, but naver had this itchiness. It's particularly bad under my eyes, in my eyebrows and on my forehead and neck... even my scalp is itching a bit.

Hello - sorry I just got back to this.

It is so hard to tell with allergies. DD has developed a horrible allergy to grass this year. She is not sneezing, but is all red and itchy after playing in the park on the recently cut grass. I had to give her antihistamines and stick her in the shower and wash all her clothes.

I thought if the pharmacist looked at it they might be able to suggest whether you should see the GP or not.

Are you sure you haven't used a different washing powder, fabric softner, cleanser, moisturiser, shampoo etc. Even if you had washed your pillow case in something different, that would account for the spread of the rash/itching.

Hey I wondered if you still have the same irritations as they are exactly what I suffer from...?
