Nausea and fed up

I'm 43f, suffer from health anxiety due to some traumatic events throughout my life. In January this year I was suffering from excruciating upper left abdominal pain, lost 10lb in weight, and about a month's worth of sleep with the worry of it all. Got nowhere with GP over several appointments so went private. I had an abdominal ultrasound and endoscopy and all returned normal along with numerous blood tests. A small gallbladder polyp was found but thought to be of no concern. Eventually my symptoms eased.

Fast forward to October, I've not put any of the lost weight back on and I've started with daily nausea, a feeling of a lump in my throat, tiredness and I'm just so fed up of it all. I feel like I look pale and gaunt and 10 years older ! Visited my GP again, prescribed omeprazole and told to try anti depressants. I've also started with pulsatile tinnitus which has been on and off throughout the year and told both my eardrums are bulging.

Anyone suffer with daily nausea or anything that sounds similar. I'm obviously really concerned something more serious is going on as I've just not been right for almost 12 months now :( I've started the omeprazole with no change in symptoms but not started on the anti depressants.

Any thoughts would be appreciated, particularly those that will stop me worrying 🙏🏼

What’s your diet like?

justasking111 · 06/11/2024 18:48

Omeprazole takes a few weeks to work. As do anti depressants

Would you consider seeing an acupuncturist? There are some amazing points which work well for chemo and pregnancy nausea (demonstrated through clinical research) and they may also be able to more holistically assess your health.

How many mg of Omeprazole and have you been taking it for 4wks yet?

Do you eat enough calories for your size to re-gain the weight lost or are you only eating enough to maintain your weight vs how much physical exercise you do?

Schoolrunmum81 · 07/11/2024 15:44

So my diet is fairly balanced, I do eat chocolate and biscuits and the like but equally I eat fruit and veg, protein and try and make healthy choices for my family. I have very minimal alcohol. I'm very slim, BMI is around 18.5 at the moment. I'm probably eating just to maintain rather than gain, but eating a lot makes me feel sick, so but of a rock and a hard place at the minute.

I've been prescribed 20mg of omeprazole, once a day which I take 20-30 minutes before my breakfast. I've been taking the for 5 days.

Exercise wise I dont really fit the gym in, but I do walk regularly. Could definitely do more though.

For extra info I'm also vitamin D deficient and taking 1000ui a day along with an average Vitamin B complex vitamin.

Thanks for the replies

I am actually seeing one at the moment for my anxiety. I have mentioned the nausea.

Op have you been tested for coeliacs disease?

Schoolrunmum81 · 07/11/2024 18:37

Yes biopsies taken in Jan during endoscopy were negative. I did pay for a private food intolerance test, which threw up sensitivities to gluten, dairy, bananas, onions, garlic from what I can remember. I did cut a lot of things out for a while but I wasn't convinced by the results if I'm honest. It wasn't blood tests it was a probe on an accupuncture point on my hand, and the bigger the reaction the more likely a sensitivity. Supposedly something like 75% accurate. I didn't have nausea at that time though. This is something very new and different for me.

If you are feeling nauseous and have tinitus have you considered something is off with your sense of balance?

I think but I’m not certain it’s called vertigo?! Or it might be something else

worth a google

Does your nausea ever ease? Maybe when you are in a certain position? Lying, sitting?

Hottytotty32 · 07/11/2024 18:56

Yup from last October I started suffering with daily nausea every single day but never actually vomiting but the nausea is horrendous my doctor sent me for a endoscopy and it showed a sliding hernia however my doctor said it shouldn’t be this bad I’m now on cyclizine 3 times a day which does help I couldn’t even get out of bed before due to nausea now I can work and eat and feel better also on esmoprazole and take Gaviscon daily this does settle my stomach enough to function I’ve had this from over a year now I’m exhausted with it and keep getting passed doctor to doctor keep pushing with the doctors and let them know if it effects your day to day life

Getorfthelawn · 11/11/2024 21:31

A couple of years ago (when I was about 43 too) I was experiencing daily nausea, but with no pattern to it. It was a bit like an almost constant low level travel sickness. It lasted for about 10 months and caused me to be really anxious about my health as I was convinced it must mean something was wrong. It has gone away now and has been attributed to anxiety (but I still maintain it was the nausea that made me anxious, not the other way around!).
I did try omeprazole and cyclizine during the period of nausea, neither of which had any discernible effect. I also had a lump in my throat feeling, a period of ongoing headaches and a period of ongoing sore throat. Plus fairly regular night sweats.
None of which ended up being anything serious.
I do wonder if some symptoms were peri menopause related, but I’m not sure.
Googling never helped but I was always trying to find some positive stories about almost constant nausea, and never found any.
I do have ongoing health anxiety but on the whole manage it ok now (with a little help from low dose citralopram). I try hard not to google now but it’s hard when a new symptom pops up.
I’m not saying your nausea is anxiety, but for me I think it was.
I hope you feel better soon.

Schoolrunmum81 · 12/11/2024 21:06

@Getorfthelawn well I sound just like you! Thank you for replying. Guilty as charged, I have terrible health anxiety, I'm always googling and never appear to find anything as positive as I would like and it never leaves me feeling great. I need to stop !
If you don't mind me asking what dose of Citalopram are you on? GP has prescribed 10mg but the box is still unopened !

I started on 10mg and have gone up to 20, then back down to 10, then had a period of forgetting to take it. I thought I didn’t need to take it anymore but then I had another bad time with health anxiety and I’ve come to realise a low dose does help.
I take 20mg some days and a half tablet some days (and no tablet some days when I forget!).
I’m having a minor wobble again at the moment as I’ve found a lump on my skull/behind my ear, but I’m better able to sit with it and not panic like I used to. I try to follow the advice I was given to wait a couple of weeks (if it isn’t urgent) before rushing to contact the doctor.
