Chickenpox - successful tips/ tricks whilst going through it

Hello!

My youngest DD (2) has come down with chicken pox this weekend after just recovering from another illness.

We have stocked up on calpol, cotton balls/ calamine lotion and have some oats/ oat based bath foam to aid her.

Just wondering if there was any other tried, tested and successful things to aid with any itching/ being uncomfortable.

My eldest DD (7) has yet to have CP so we anticipate she will catch it soon. I have been anxious myself in worrying about catching it. Although I had it twice as a child, I now have a comprised immune system.

Any tips would be much appreciated TIA.

Some antihistamines might help reduce the amount of itchiness (piriton is available as a syrup) maybe ask a pharmacist which they would recommend. Also, gels like virasoothe seem better than calamine IMO.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will look to get some. She seems ok atm but I fear if the eldest DD gets it, she will find it harder not to scratch.

Order some new toys (I bought a trampoline) because your child will start feeling well and rumbunctious long before they are safe to take out in public so you need to have plenty to do at home while you wait out the quarantine (until all spots crusted over)

While they are still poorly - oatmeal baths are very soothing. Put 3 tbs of readybrek into a thin-dernier sock and tie it to the bath tap such that warm water flows through the oatmeal

Calendula cream. Not the homeopathic stuff, that's useless, but a cream from a proper herbalist. I'm the most anti woo person in the world, but it such good stuff.

Yes to the oatmeal bath. I put porridge oats in a thin sock and fixed it over the bath tap to run the bath through. It makes a nice milky bath whcih for some reason is very soothing and calms the itching. Did this with all of mine before bed when the spots at their worse and it really helped.

Thank you all for the suggestions 😊. I am half expecting when the eldest gets it I will have to keep her occupied from trying to scratch.

I have got some extra supplies of calpol as well.

I have been doing oat baths but scattering them in the water with an oat based solution. My youngest seems to be coping well but is teething at the same time so been given her cool foods/ water to help as well.
