Pseudomonas aeruginosa - UTI Germ - Resistant to all AB's accept Ciprofloxacin.......

Does anyone know anything about this germ?

I won't go into the whole situation as already have a seperate thread about that. It's just I found out today what this 'nasty UTI Infection' was, well, the name of the germ and it's Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

When I try and find out info online it's all very medical and hard for a non-medical person like me to understand.

Anyone in the know able to give any info to me?

BTW, I'm 31 weeks pregnant and now on a course of Ciprofloxacin. I know they don't normally prescribe this in pregnancy but the Microbiology report shows that what I have is resistant to every single listed AB except that one so I have no choice really.

Thanks for your time

Are you feeling any better?

emma1977 · 25/04/2008 20:05

Its one of the more unusual culprits for causing a UTI but not that uncommon.

Occurs more commonly if you are immunosuppressed, have chronic disease or have had recurrent infections and been exposed to lots of antibiotics.

Its not really anything to worry about and isn't a 'superbug'.

avenanap - the pain isn't as bad, just feeling washed out but it's the weekend so can rest now

emma1977 - that's very reassuring to know I've just found it hard to get my head round it due to never hearing of this sort of resistance problem plus having 2 different Drs coming acrossed as concerned. Think the boss Dr was more concerned that this should have been dealt with 6 weeks ago but won't go into moaning about that again .

I'm really pleased it's hurting less, it means the antibiotics are working. Keep drinking, it will wash them out. I'm glad you are feeling better. Have a nice, restful weekend.

Hehe, I can't STOP drinking Seriously, I've had the maddest thirst on this week but I reckon it's because I'm going to the toilet so much now Anyway, as you say, I'm hoping it's flushing the yucky bug out

Has your midwife checked your urine for sugar?

looneytune · 25/04/2008 20:26

Dr said no sugar in urine today and all other tests have been neg for sugar. Yesterday was unbelieveable, I was drinking water all day long and yet I didn't pop!!
