Mole removal on back - did you recover quickly?

I’ve been fast tracked to get a biopsy done on a mole in the centre of my back as it looks like it’s grown to me, it’s 10mm long. They want to remove it for the biopsy. I’m so nervous about it. I’ve put my child in nursery for the whole day as my husband is working a late shift and my surgery is in the morning. All local anesthetic. Will I be ok afterwards to do normal things or will it take a couple of days? My mum is asking if I need her to pick my daughter up after nursery but I’m not sure what to expect really? Thanks

I had one on my stomach and one on my neck, oh and on my leg

My personal experience is that i needed to rest after, I would take your mum up on the offer of collecting your child. You wont want to be doing any lifting really

Mine were a bit smaller than that and were cauterised (unsure if with one of that size it might need stitches?), but I was fine immediately after - no need to rest or anything. That said, you may as well ask your mum to get your daughter just in case!

I had one removed in the area between my shoulder blades and went straight back to work (office job). Went out to a party that night too! I think the only thing they advised was not to lift anything for a few days to avoid any chance of the stitches popping.

I had a large mole removed from my back, it ended up taking a while as it was quite deep and they had to cut more away than planed but it was fine, the worst bit for me was the local anaesthetic (it stung) but ones the area was numb I don’t really feel much. My dh came with me but I was able to drive later that day and was fine the next day.

I had one removed and 2 stitches put in. was fine to do normal things immediately after. having the stitches removed was tricky because there was a bank holiday weekend that meant they stayed in a bit too long. but otherwise no noticeable effects.

I've had moles removed via cutting/stitching and others via lasering. I would say the latter was easier to recover from as they were cauterized/ no stitches.

I would suggest you buy a pack of co-codamol if you need the former because of a biopsy. It'll be ok. Take it easy that evening. It could be a little tight/sore.

I had one removed from my clavicle. I was absolutely fine. Drove myself there and home.
It’s really no different to accidentally giving yourself a small cut, they will put couple of stitches in so there no need to worry about it bleeding or anything. It’s really very minor.
You should be fine to carry on as normal.

woahyeah · 01/11/2024 15:47

I've had moles removed from my back, chest and hip.
After the anaesthetic was done, it was absolutely painless and totally fine.
Afterwards, be careful not to do stretching and lifting as you don't want to pull the stitches:
Aside from that, I found recovery was fine and they healed quickly. ☺️

I had one removed from the back of my neck. The doctor who did it signed me off for a week because it was a large mole in such an awkward place. I ended up with another week off because trying to work set off nerve pain shooting down my arm. I think it depends if the area is somewhere that moves a lot.

Withywoods · 01/11/2024 15:51

I had one removed from the back of my leg. Drove myself there, drove myself home, back to work and looking after DC as usual the next day as DH was working away at the time. The bruising was impressive looking, but it was painless and healed well and fast. I barely noticed it tbh. I was a bit more careful with my movements than usual so as not to pull the stitches, but that was about it.

bluecomputerscreen · 01/11/2024 15:51

dh had one removed from the back.
as it was a deep excision (sp?) into muscles as well he couldn't pick up anything heavy for a few weeks and aldo couldn't carry bags or backpacks. he milked it for what it's worth

OchAyeTheN00 · 01/11/2024 18:12

I had one on my leg. Due to location I was told no exercise, to rest and elevate as much as possible for the next 2 days which I did.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/11/2024 18:18

It shouldn't be a big deal (I've had a couple done, one from my back, one from my tum) but I think if your mum can pick up your dd from nursery then you don't need to worry if there's any delay at all.

BleachedJumper · 01/11/2024 18:18

i had one on my side/along my ribs and it was a lot deeper than he initially thought, 3/4 stitches and I found it very unpleasant for the recovery but I think that was mostly because of the location, lifting my arms hurt, turning etc.

InTheRainOnATrain · 01/11/2024 18:23

Mine wasn’t dodgy, I accidentally and partially self removed it. But right in the middle of my shoulder blades. The incision was much larger than I expected. The surgeon put extra stitches in knowing I had a 1YO. I went to my mum’s for 3 days afterwards because DH was out of leave at work and I didn’t want to lift the baby at all. Went home after 3 days and still managed to split the stitches. Honestly it was awful! I would get your mum to help if she’s offering.

Strawbsss · 01/11/2024 18:26

Literally in and out. No issues at all.
No pain, just needed to keep it covered with dressing.

AllThePotatoesAreSingingJingleBells · 01/11/2024 18:27

3 taken from my back. Hurt for a couple of days. Think I went camping the weekend after one of them and don’t recall it being so bad.

edit just saw you have a small child. I didn’t at the time. Get help x

Beamur · 01/11/2024 18:32

I'd err on the side of caution.
I had one removed from my back and was told not to drive for a few days.
It was more uncomfortable to recover from than I had expected but was healed in 2 weeks but didn't feel entirely ok for a couple of months.
