Varicose veins, but my foot has looks awful today! - GP? (Photo)

Hi all,
I have quite bad varicose veins and am on the NHS list to have them sorted.

However, yesterday I noticed my leg more swollen than normal and all my veins are swollen and hard, especially in my foot. My foot actually looks terrible and is concerning me the most, definitely not as it is usually and is purple in places.

I thought I'd see how it is this morning and it is still the same although now my veins have little lumps in them too (usually they aren't).

DH says not worth bothering GP about as I'm already on the list but I know what my leg is normally like and this is abnormal, still I'm doubting what a GP can actually do. Although in the back of mine I'm slightly concerned it's a DVT as I've been inactive lately due to depression and I've recently started the pill.

Thoughts?

You are concerned about your body, have listed several risk factors for DVT and blood clots.

Why would you listen to your presumably non-medically qualified DH?

Make an appointment and go see the GP - you aren't supposed to know what they will do that's their job. They will know what medications they can describe, what medications they should stop you taking and who they can refer you to.

Hard to say as that’s what mine used to look like before I had them done last year. I would say if you feel your foot or leg itself feels more swollen than usual it’s worth a trip to the doctors to rule out anything like DVT

Do you have diabetes or pre diabetes?

Wth19 · 30/10/2024 08:08

No I don't @Samphire44

You are concerned about your health, your body isn't working as it should - obviously you should see your GP.

It's a bit concerning that you need to post here and ask a load of strangers for validation on that.

Your husband is an idiot and shouldn't be voicing opinions on what other people should or shouldn't do about their own health. Who tells family members that they shouldn't go to the GP? I spend half my life trying to get people to go!

See your gp. If anywhere is red/ hot draw around it so you / dr can see if it changes in sizes.
Keep moving and keep your feet up when you are sat down.

If only one leg is swollen definitely call the gp, but given your risk of clots don’t be surprised if they send you to a&e for a scan. If it becomes hot and painful just go to a&e.

Samphire44 · 30/10/2024 08:16

I would go to your GP and get your blood sugar checked. Foot swelling is a very common symptom of issues with blood sugar control. If you know you don't have diabetes what is your hba1c?

Wth19 · 30/10/2024 09:47

Thank you all.

I have seen my GP who has sent me for a scan this morning as one leg is quite warm compared to the other but still could be just varicose veins (hopefully!).
