Chicken bone stuck in throat

Samcj02 · 28/10/2024 13:07

My partner thinks he has a chicken bone stuck in his throat since Saturday 🤦‍♀️but is unsure whether it’s just a scratch left by the bone 🤷‍♀️
anyone else experienced this? I’m trying to get him to attend A&E but he’s reluctant and I’m unsure if our local minor injuries would be able to help?

any advice welcome!

Yes, minor injuries would be able to help.
If he's going, he'll need to take books and snacks for the duration.

Wouldn't hurt to have it checked out at A&E, they'll triage it appropriately (or even send you to minor injuries) so it won't be a waste of time/resources or anything. The GP could have a look but wouldn't physically be able to move it and would likely send him to the hospital anyway.

This happened to me and it was removed at A&E with really long tweezers. No way was it coming out any other way.

would these be worth a try @Samcj02?

A similar thing happened to my DH and he was told (by the doc) to drink a can of fizzy drink. Surprisingly it really worked!

I know someone who ignored a bone stuck in their throat and they ended up in a coma for months.
If there is a bone stuck it needs to be removed before it causes further complications.

I’ve told him how serious it can be, but he’s an adult unfortunately I can’t force him to go to A&E any quicker 🥲

Please get him to go to A and E, it can be really serious.

LancashireSquirrel · 29/10/2024 21:35

How's it going, OP?

bowelpain · 30/10/2024 04:47

Has he been seen. I needed surgery for a bone which perferated my bowel. I appreciate this is rare but a quick look and an xray should resolve things.

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 30/10/2024 04:49

Drink original red Coke - this is often recommended in hospitals for fish bones but I think chicken bones might be harder to breakdown

Hi thanks everyone! He’s been to A&E all sorted ☺️ it actually wasn’t there by the time he eventually went but it caused some irritation, he felt silly but I said it’s better to br safe than sorry!
