Sudden Extreme NOSEBLEEDS, any experience?

Two nights now, my 81 year old father has woken up to find his pillow, and duvet and bedsheets soaked in blood. He has been totally unaware it has happened. Now it has also started happening in the day time, quite suddenly. Any idea as to what it could be, or should we worry at all? He does not suffer from high blood pressure. He does not have any headaches or dizzyness. He is in a wheelchair, so he is not very active. However, the bleeds in the day seem to coincide with activity (such as getting up from bed, moving from wheelchair to easy chair, etc)

If the nose bleeds are that bad, he really should be assessed by GP.

His blood pressure would need checking.

Does he take aspirin on a regular basis?

Sometimes it can be due to a fragile blood vessel. If so, it might need cauterising.

I used to have really really bad nosebleeds when I was younger at least 2 everyday bleeding for 30-40 mins.
The doctors checked and it was a blood vessle in my nose that was damaged and it stoped on its own after years

I'd definitely get him checked out by a doctor at his age just in case its anything

Does he have LOW blood pressure? I would get it checked out, too. I used to have terrible nosebleeds as a child, I was anaemic and had low blood pressure. I still get them now, on occaision. Being anaemic makes them bleed for longer, I think.

Thanks, a nurse came by twice yesterday to check his blood pressure. It was 135 over 80, which is the same as he has had the last 6-7 years. We spoke to his GP, he is referring him to ENT, as he thinks there are some burst little vessels in his nose.

I do hope he gets sorted out. My brother in law had the cauterising treatment and it worked a treat.
