Weird muscle contractions in pelvic floor since hysterectomy

I had my op on 18th October. Recovery going well but on night of 24/10 and again last night I've hardly slept due to what feels like weird muscle contractions in my vagina. I'll be drifting off and then suddenly i feel it 'closing' if that makes sense. This wakes me up, I get comfy and then it happens again. I had 3 hours sleep last night and been awake since 1am. Has anyone else had anything like this or know how to stop it. It's fine in the day and only happens when I'm dropping off. I am soooo tired and worry that my vagina is going to keep me awake forever!

Yes!

I'm recovering from removal of a large cyst/ ovaries/tubes and I also had this.

It took ages to settle down and I presumed it was just everything healing. I expect it did happen in the day but more noticeable at night.

It happened when I peed too sometimes and was quite painful. I saw a nurse and and she rolled her eyes and told me to be patient 😂

Did you have keyhole surgery? She said that it can take a long time for everything to settle down again after being separated by the gas.

Funnily enough,I realised yesterday that I don't get that feeling anymore,I'm 8 weeks post op.

I kept painkillers by my bed and took them when that sensation bothered me. In fact I kept up with the night time pain killers for ages after not needing day ones.

Mine also started about a week after my op ,like yours.

Thank you. That's somewhat reassuring though sorry you had this too. It's such a weird sensation, not painful but very disconcerting that it keeps happening. I wonder if it's to do with tense pelvic floor muscles starting to relax as I get sleepy and the tensing up is what wakes me. It is so annoying. I did have keyhole surgery yes.

It's early days for you, I really had quite odd sensations over the weeks as I was healing. It would be really nice to have a check up and be reassured,I was just booted out of the hospital and that was that!

Hope you continue to heal well and don't be afraid of taking painkillers especially as you do more over the coming weeks.

Yes. Follow up would be nice. Everyone on line talks about 2 and 6 week follow ups but I've not got anything! Good luck to you too 😀

Maybe you get a follow up with a hysterectomy but I was "any problems see your GP" which was a pain as I had a problem immediately and ended up with an infection. I think it's so poor to have an operation and then no follow up at all. Would be so nice to just go ask if what you're feeling is normal .

How are you feeling OP? 😊

Thanks for asking 🙂. Much better thank you. The strange sensations settled down after a few days thankfully. Will be three weeks tomorrow since my op. Still tired and sore at times but getting there.

Glad to hear it. I asked as today was the first time I hoovered since my op, it's been she's job and I was fine but about half an hour later I had that odd sensation again and took pain killers and I thought of you !

Following gynea surgary I had very wierd sensations which I described as "buzzing" down there. It happened on / off for several months

tootsierubs · 07/11/2024 22:55

They gave me Buscopan after my op for a few days which stopped those sensations and stopped the bladder spasms too.

My surgeon said it is to do with all the organs shaking down into new places - I tried not to think too much about that!

Stretchedresources · 08/11/2024 08:54

Yes, I remember getting these. Nothing too awful but very unsettling for a while.

That's just what the nurse said to me.
