History of low back pain and pelvic pain last 3 months
Came on suddenly -sore most days varies in intensity - can wake me up in the night
Tailbone really sore if sitting or driving
Hip bones achey
Oesteopath thinks possibly overtight pelvic floor
Anyone had similar ? Did it resolve ?
Have seen GP but they didn't seem convinced but little else offered in way of diagnosis .

Candypatthongworn · 04/01/2025 20:06

Not diagnosed but I’m 99% sure this is what I had! Was super worried it was something bad but i I knew I was extremely stressed and pelvis is where I hold tension so in 2023 I made the decision to work on my pelvic floor with stretches/relaxation etc and I barely get any trouble now! I was amazed when I saw the symptoms associated with it that you wouldn’t necessarily think would be

rainbow616 · 07/01/2025 13:47

@CFOfTheHighestOrder which stretches did you do? How long did it take to get better?

Emma543 · 07/01/2025 13:49

Hi OP
im a women’s health physio and we specialise in overactive pelvic floor, I would ask your GP for a pelvic health physio referral where we can assess for overactivity / tension. It involves various treatment techniques such as breath work, stretching, managing anxiety, muscle down training. The muscles can also be weak alongside over active so this can also be addressed if present x

Hi @Emma543
I have had a hypertonic PV following a uti in october. Started seeing a wonderfyl pelvic physio 3 weeks ago, do you know usual timeline for seeing improvements?
Thanks

rainbow616 · 16/02/2025 22:08

Just to update, I found consistent stretching worked really well for me. I did 10 mins in the morning and evening. Pigeon pose and low squat worked well for me alongside diaphragmatic breathing. I also did meditation too. X

StunnedCrab · 17/02/2025 07:26

Thank you @rainbow616 may I ask how long it took you for symptoms to ease?

rainbow616 · 17/02/2025 07:43

I would say it took a couple of months. I still feel it every now and again but if I carry on with my stretches then it does ease off.

StunnedCrab · 20/02/2025 18:17

Thank you @rainbow616 that is reassuring. May I ask what your main symptoms were?

rainbow616 · 20/02/2025 18:56

Of course! Mine felt like they changed constantly. Sometimes I felt like I had a uti but the test was always negative. Sometimes I wasn't sure whether I needed to pee or not. I had discomfort on my tailbone. My lower back also hurt. Sitting in any kind of chair was intensely uncomfortable. I also felt a lot of pelvic pressure.

StunnedCrab · 20/02/2025 21:59

Thanks Rainbow - same as me! Nearly always feel like I could go for a wee and at times bladder feels so heavy. That's reassuring. Will keep going with exercises!

rainbow616 · 20/02/2025 22:00

It does take a commitment if I'm honest, but it's so worth it. The exercises really really helped me! Hope you feel better soon x

rainbow616 · 25/03/2025 13:26

@StunnedCrabhow are you doing now? X

Borracha · 25/03/2025 13:43

I had this after my third baby. I saw a wonderful women’s physio and she inserted her fingers into my vagina and sort of pressed and massaged the fascia and omg the relief was immediate. I did regular pelvic floor exercises for a few weeks after and it never happened again.

StunnedCrab · 25/03/2025 16:52

@rainbow616 thanks for checking in! I think perhaps a little better - I am trying to just do my exercises daily and not think about it if I can. Had bloods for kidney function and a CA125 test via GP and they have referred me for a scan but pelvic physio thinks hypertonic pelvic floor so I am trying to remain calm!

rainbow616 · 25/03/2025 16:53

That’s good. It does take a bit of time so it’s good to be consistent. Hope it gets better x

Coccyx pain is a sign of a weak pelvic floor. It can happen in the peri/menopause.
I would imagine the back pain is too - possibly weak core muscles not holding things in correct alignment.
Bladder irritability can be urge incontinence, again something that’s associated with the peri/menopause.
