This is utterly miserable for my partner ( male) Years of anti biotics, 12 weeks on another medication. In the system to see a dermatologist.
He doesn't want to apply things and " mess about with it" Also we can't afford to shell out for something that might not help.
I'd be terribly grateful for any help with this. Many Thanks.

Depends what aspect of it he’s struggling with - I’ve found nothing that lessens redness (only covers it).
For the itching/burning/tight skin/general soreness GP has prescribed Lymecycline and 15% topical azelaic acid in combination which has calmed everything down significantly. I’d say the cream has been more effective than the antibiotics, so he might have to get over not wanting to put anything on his face?
He also needs to make sure anything that does go on his face is non comedogenic and really gentle.

greenday16B · 22/10/2024 12:30

Thanks for replying. Had Lymecyline and I wonder if also had azelic acid.
I know I'll probably be under attack for the seemingly silly attititude he has.
Sometimes that's how people are when they can't see a solution.

The azelaic acid is applied to the face as a cream, there really isn’t much that he can do that isn’t topical (applied to the skin as a cream).
I’ve been investigating laser treatment but it’s super pricey - might be his only option though?

Soolantra.

About 50 a tube, bought online. Had to send a photo. Mine cleared within a week.

My OH had it. I think you get different types of rosacea so I'm not sure if the treatment is the same for all types. His was severe redness, looked raised but he didn't have the lumps that I've seen on some people. His doctor prescribed Finacea cream, that's the one with azelaic acid and told him to never go outside without sunblock on - the sun really makes it worse. As far as I understand you have to be really diligent and apply both every day, it cleared up, he still uses the creams regularly, but not daily, to keep it at bay.

jumpintheline · 22/10/2024 21:39

Nothing stops the hot flushes, but I have to wear factor 50 every day and keep my face out of direct sunlight. I also use Sulphur soap - very cheap and keeps the spots away.

I found finacea quite harsh on my skin but lots of people swear by it.

OnTheBounce · 22/10/2024 21:47

My GP prescribes Soolantra (ivermectin cream) - if it's the red pustules and general tightness, it can clear it up in weeks.

I had a quite amazing reaction to it. A bit disgusting because it means mine was caused by mites 🤢

roseymoira · 22/10/2024 21:58

It depends on the type, is it red flushing, or pustule? If you Google image it you will see which type it is.

Solantra is always recommended on here.

Mine is just flushing, not pustule and I found it improved by having the thread veins on my cheeks lasered. Cost about 150

LorettyTen · 22/10/2024 21:59

I've tried most things. I have metronidazole gel on prescription which has stopped the pustules. Nothing much helps the redness but keeping my skin moisturised makes it feel better. M&S do a daily moisturiser for redness prone skin which is very light and very similar to Clinique Redness Solutions moisturiser but much cheaper.
I like Prosacea which is a very soothing gel and invisible when on the skin. Unfortunately it's not sold in the UK but you can buy it from the USA or Canada on Amazon or Ebay. A tube lasts ages. If you know anyone going to the USA, ask them to get you some from Walgreens drug store.

I was thinking of having mine done. My cheeks are pretty bad at the moment with broken veins. I'm glad to hear it's effective.

Silvertulips · 22/10/2024 22:02

I was diagnosed with it.

I used coldsore cream and it stung - bit cleared in 2 days having been on my face for years - never came back.

Came on here to say this. Ask the GP for a scrip. That’s how I got mine. I was diagnosed with rosacea. It wasn’t rosacea ( it was a demodex mite inflammation) and Soolantra fixed it in 3 weeks tops. It is amazing.

greenday16B · 23/10/2024 10:22

I will get him to push for Soolantra. I wonder why it hasn't been suggested?

I'm utterly fed up with the situation tbh.

Thanks

It depends what type of rosacea it is. I was prescribed Soolantra by a GP and it didn’t do a thing for me. The next GP said that was because it isn’t effective for the type of rosacea that I have.

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 23/10/2024 11:41

Laser treatment completely stopped my flushing. I do a few maintenance treatments in the winter months only. Pricey but worth it.
I also had great results with Soolantra.

Chewbecca · 23/10/2024 13:37

Soolantra works for me. I got it via GP.
