belgo · 24/04/2008 13:31

agree with misdee. You can't take any risks with eyes.

TooTicky · 24/04/2008 13:33

Right, he has now opened it but says things are still fuzzy.
Dp out with car and currently uncontactable.

I once poked my eye with a pen and I wore sunglasses afterwards because it was so painful to open my eye.

poshwellies · 24/04/2008 13:42

I thought I had damaged my eye once and went to docs-they sent me straight to optical dept of hospital.Luckily no lasting damage but bloody hell, its very painful.

pooka · 24/04/2008 13:45

If his vision is blurry he should be seen by a doctor.

My brother once had a football in his eye, vision a bit blurry after (as if he had mud in it, he said). Trip to A&E, then whisked to the eye A&E, partially detached retina.

warmsummersday · 24/04/2008 20:02

Hi.

I had a similar situation last night with my 19 month old. She got poked quite badly in the eye and it bled. I didn't know what to do. I phoned NHS direct and they told me to take her straight down to A&E which is where I spent my evening last night. They gave her some yellow drops and saw a big scratch and she now has antibiotic drops. I am still worried but it is clearing up now.I would ring NHS direct.

glad he's ok

TooTicky · 26/04/2008 19:14

Has now been over 48 hours, ds2's eye still not opening fully and vision blurry.
The abrasion is right on his cornea.
Should I be worrying?

Just seen this. If's he's still the same this morning, I would phone the hospital again.

TooTicky · 27/04/2008 11:28

Thanks, yes I think I will.

Go to an eye hospital if possible. Most have a walk-in clinic, though maybe not on Sundays. Good luck.

Psychomum5 · 27/04/2008 11:32

what did they do at the hospital???

my DD3 had this (only sharp end) courtesy of her brother when she was 4'ish. she needed anti/b eye drops for about a week as she had scratched her eye too.

all was fine

TooTicky · 27/04/2008 12:00

But was her vision blurry for several days?

OP posts:
Psychomum5 · 27/04/2008 12:06

hmmm......can;t remember to be honest. I know that the day it happened vision was, but we have an eye A&E five mins away from us so we took her there that evening, they put drops in and looked into a special eye instrement and showed me the scratched across her eye (the drops wer bright orange to 'stain' the scratch and she had bright orange snot for a few days aftere.....the kiddies were fascinated) and gave anti/b drops. told me to come back if there was swelling/weeping/vision probs and there were none that concerned me so we didn;t...she had a check-up a month later tho that they arranged and all was clear by then!

I would say that you need another opinion as to lave the eyes can cause more probs. I have ignored mine and it has turned out that I had an inflammation and now have a damaged iris , am to need glasses now!! (altho I am an adult so of course tis different as we do ignore ourselves).

I am sure he will be fine, but he will most likely need drops of some kind.

Psychomum5 · 27/04/2008 12:13

oooh....one bit of advice given to me by my optomistrist....

he said that any decent opticians/optomotrists would see you in their shop if you couldn;t get to the eye A&E....he said that if mine recurs again then I am to go to him instead ans they too carry anti/b drops etc.

hth and you get sorted soon

TooTicky · 27/04/2008 12:19

Yes, we had the staining stuff too.

Good idea about opticians though...
