has anyone got any experience of this?

my ds (15 months) has had it twice. both times it got better with two doses of IV antibiotics followed up with a week of orals.

we finished the latest course a week ago. nursery has just called to say his eye is puffy again... i'm hoping it's because he's slept on it and it will be back to normal in an hour or so (this has been known).

but if we end up in casualty AGAIN, has anyone got any idea of what happens next? apart from the inevitable antibiotics, how can they find out what's causing it? we're waiting for a referral to opthalmologist but presumably that will take ages.

May do a ct scan to see what is going on underneath.
Have nursed many children with this condition, but never seen them more than twice I don't think,so your little DS is unlucky.
If you are admitted again, ask to be refered to Opthalmology team whilst as an inpatient, you will be seen whilst you are there.
Good luck.

Thanks for that. The first consultant we saw muttered something about a CT scan if the antis didn't do the trick, so I may remind them of that.

Off to nursery now to see what's what.

Would they have to sedate/anaesthetise him for a CT scan? (no WAY i'd get that one to stay still)

They would sedate him, yes. Usually use a sedative in medicine form, unfortunately it tastes disgusting so is a trial to get t hem to take it!
He will have a cannula in though in case the oral sedation doesn't work,so that it could be given iv.
