My lovely DD age 4 since birth has always suffered from tummy pain of some sort. As a baby she cried incessantly, various Dr's said it was colic but despite efforts with drops etc never settled.
At around 2 she settled more, a lot less crying at night, to now who is mainly a happy active little girl mostly sleeps through but still quite a bit compalains of tummy ache.
For as long as I can remember since she learnt to speak she has complianed about her tummy and asked me to rub it for her whenever she gets it she always says she is hot and needs to be cold and sometimes she feels sick.
The last doctor I saw suggested it maybe attention seeking Im sorry but it most certainly isnt. Today she even got off the trampoline in the garden because it was hurting her tummy!
Doctors just dont seem interested they press her tummy, take temp etc and just say she will grow out of it but I cant just leave it esp after today when it stopped her from doing something she loves also I will mention she gets quite smelly breath from time to time and genrally has a lot of wind (bottom end)
If you have got this far thank you.
Any ideas would be gratefully recieved.

Irritable bowel syndrome??

I feel your frustration that the docs aren't doing something more
I hope you find out soon what is going on.

c0mfort · 23/04/2008 22:58

Thanks Trinity will have a look into that straight away.

Just been reading about IBS -

  1. It doesnt mention the smelly breath
  2. She is neither constipated or has diarrhea.
  3. and goes to the toilet regularly.

So im not sure about that - Im thining of taking her back to the GP's soon for another bash but Im starting to feel as though they think Im making it up but I will mention possibility of IBS.
Anyone else with DC with similair symptoms?

My DD suffered several years from stomach migraines. My nephew still does, he cant actually eat certain foods as this triggers his off. My DD got them when she was physically worn out.

Nephew suffered big time with terrible wind although my DD didnt.

Thanks pinkbubble, stomach migraines - is this part of IBS or something different?
Did your DD get smelly breath at all?
Ah bless your nephew, my DD is always trumping we sometimes depending on the mood giggle about it but I really worry as she mentioned the other day that she keeps doing it at pre-school and I just said "oh dont worry about it no one probably notices". I try to ignore it but she normally when with me announces it or sometimes just looks at me and smiles
Hopefully she will either grow out of it or learn to let them out a bit silently

Yes DD did get smelly breath, but to be honest I am not sure if that was because she wasn't eating/drinking. At the beginning of the symptoms DD was sick for a day or two, then was just flaked for a couple of days.

c0mfort · 23/04/2008 23:34

Right so its a possibility then although my DD eats really well, she has never really drank a lot of fluid but does drink some water during the day.
She said yesterday, milk makes my tummy hurt, she doesnt have it everyday and she didnt have any yesterday before her tummy ache but it did make me think about dairy products.
I have tried to spot when it occurs and what she consumes but never so far found a consistent link.

Sounds a bit like me, could be food intolerance or irritable bowel.
Certain foods or being nervous about stuff set it off for me.
I can only drink skimmed milk (but not too much), full fat or semi skimmed give me terrible stomach cramps.
Burnt cheese (yes!) also does not agree with me but can take small amounts of melted cheese.
Have to watch tomatoes, ice cream and other stuff too.

Really a long drawn out process of eliminating various foods to find the things that trigger it really. Gripe water can possibly help in the meantime.

Good luck, M x

Thanks Horsemadgal, I think Im going to start a diary of what she eats and drinks and when she get tummy ache. Like you say it may be a long drawn out process but Im determind to find out what it is before it starts to interfere to much with her little life.
She had it again today whilst on the trampoline and asked to get off, normally she loves it and was looking longingly at her little friend who was using it who she loves, bless her.
