How to provide evidence of MMR vaccine?

runner2000 · 17/10/2024 15:33

I have just received a job offer for a job in the NHS and need to provide evidence of 2 doses of MMR vaccines, I know I definitely had these when I was a child, does anyone know how I can find evidence of these?

Are they on your medical records? MMR didn't exist when I was a child but I caught all three diseases!

Lemonade2011 · 17/10/2024 15:36

Gp otherwise occ health will advise you next steps
I had no evidence so occ health took blood and checked for immunity I did need a hep b booster so I’ve had the letter for proof for subsequent jobs

If you have access to your GP notes online you should be able to see this, otherwise talk to the receptionist at the surgery? I had to do this years ago (proof of a tetenus jab) and went through the front desk.

Thanks I will speak to the receptionist, I have no records under that immunisation section in my health records on the NHS app

If you were pre electronic records when you had your immunisations then it should be in your paper record. You can ask for a copy of this.

OrlandointheWilderness · 17/10/2024 17:14

I needed to get my immunisation record when I started uni as a student nurse. Just speak to redemption and they'll send it over.

JC03745 · 17/10/2024 17:21

Have you asked your parents if they kept vaccination records? My mum did, along with teeth and a hair lock!
Otherwise, they can do a titre blood level to check.

mathanxiety · 17/10/2024 17:23

I believe a blood test can be done to determine presence of antibodies. One of my DCs had to do this (in US though) as the county records were incomplete and the wait for her records to be found and posted to her was too long.

Thanks for this. I was born before all the vaccines and had no idea if I ever had any of these diseases. I contacted my GP about it and they were of no help at all, I thought that they may have recorded that I had one of these diseases at the time.

Are you of an age to have had the MMR as it was only brought in in 1988? At the start it was only 1 dose and then a 2nd was introduced later.

You'd have to ask your GP if the vaccinations are on your records.

Nasyan · 17/10/2024 17:35

DS is 32 and his vaccinations were written in a red book with other stuff like that, I would ask your parents if they have this

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 17/10/2024 17:57

My GP was able to print my vaccine record and has done so a couple of times for me since I joined the NHS for my evidence for occasionally health. Don't worry too much if you can't get it, occasionally health will be able to do immunity tests and advise on what vaccines you need.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/10/2024 17:59

I had to have mine at the grand age of 43 when I moved jobs in the NHS. I’d worked for the same trust since 1998 but it had never been picked up that I wasn’t vaccinated until I swapped jobs for the 4th time!

LorettyTen · 17/10/2024 18:02

If all else fails, a quick blood test will measure immunity then you can have the MMR vaccinations if necessary.

nocoolnamesleft · 17/10/2024 18:02

May well be on your GP records. I work for the NHS, and my mum recently dropped the bombshell that she thought I'd only had 1 measles jab, so occy health kindly did bloods to check my immunity. So if you really run into problems, there are ways round it.

I was born in 2000 so I am certain I’ve had both doses

Hi OP I’m assuming Occupational Health have requested this information from you. The reason is because many staff already have evidence of previous immunisation or screening, and they want to avoid unnecessary duplication of vaccines and delays to the pre employment screening process. If you don’t have the required documentation they need to be informed so they can arrange an appointment to do it themselves.

LIZS · 17/10/2024 21:54

Our gp surgery printed off an immunisation record.
