Most common allergies that cause respiratory symptoms?

My ds has had a “cold” for a few months that is just not clearing up. and doctor has agreed we can request some allergy tests. But said we need to decide what ones to test for as there are
literally 100s of possible allergens. So I am thinking dust, pets, tree pollen, grass pollen. Can anyone think of any others?

dust mites?

Could there be mould in your house? you can have a mould allergy but even without an allergy that could be a culprit. Sometimes you can't see mould but you might be aware of damp. you can get a mould inspection and a dehumidifier to help, or even consider swapping bedrooms with him for a while if possible.

have you been on holiday? just wondering if his symptoms clear up when out of the house for an extended period of time.

It could really be anything- I am allergic to dust, pollen (all types from spring to autumn), dogs, and fires (log fires, bonfires, coal fires, even too many candles can trigger me.)

It could also be cleaning products, laundry powders, mould, car fumes.

I think you need to keep a record of when his symptoms are worse and better.

When I had allergy tests they did a whole lot down my arm. Cats, dogs, horses, different pollens, dust mites and mould. I reacted to them all.

When we went to london it seemed bad and we live somewhere quite rural. So I did wonder about pollution. Although not sure if that was a coincidence

What about food allergens? I had a quick google and there's a list on this website. I also breathe heavier (for want of a better description) when I'm near lit candles, air freshners and aerosol deodorants.

I hadn’t really thought of food allergies. I guess dairy is a possible

For a start, DS had tests for dust, cats, dogs, soya, dairy, gluten, nuts. Mould and pollen would also be a good idea (but DS hasn't had them yet).
