Bad breath

How do I know if I have it?
genuine question…I’ve been a bit self conscious about it for a while after my darling kids said yukky at my morning breath 🤦‍♀️so have made a big
effort to brush and floss daily and use a mouthwash etc. But how do you know
if it’s
worked? My kids are unreliable as young, and my partner / boyfriend/ no idea what to call him yet as it’s relatively early days….im so nervous to ask in case he says it’s an issue. Been a few years since I’ve been in a relationship so definitely out of practice! But one thing I have noticed is that 6
months ago he seemed to love kissing me and now I’ve noticed he genrallt
keeps his mouth quite shut and no tongue (sorry for TMI) so I’m totally mortified and worried it’s my breath. Too scared to ask and not even sure how to phrase it. He’s so lovely I don’t think he’d necessarily even tell me the truth!

so, is there is any full proof way to tell?? No real life good friends I could ask, and I work alone from home and my dog is also unhelpful here. Please help before I start over thinking even more 😂

Licking the back of your hand, allowing it to dry and smelling it is usually a good indicator.

Most people's breath stinks in the morning, your mouth dries out over night and there's nothing to wash the bacteria away with.

Provided you see a dentist/hygienist often, continue to brush/floss. Your breath should be fine. Be advised though acid reflux and indigestion can cause smelly breath.

Flossing alone usually isn't sufficient to properly clean the gums, use interdental brushes as well.

Also whilst mouthwash can help freshen your breath, it can have the opposite effect as the alcohol can dry out your mouth, it should also not be used around the same time you clean your teeth.

Also, get a tongue scraper.

Have you got tonsil stones at all? Those things smell RANK 🤢

WinterisComing95 · 14/10/2024 11:13

I really recommend The Breath Co mouthwash - the invigorating icy mint one - I use it twice a day, you need to gargle with it too, and I genuinely never have morning breath anymore. My breath smells completely odourless all day long even after eating and drinking - it’s a game changer!

also agree with PP, brush your tongue twice a day too! X

Use chlorhexidine mouthwash. Also of course an electric brush. I sometimes actually brush my tongue with the mouthwash after I've done it with toothpaste. You need to be quite firm as loads of gunk sticks to the tongue. I smoke which doesn't help!
But good dental fitness is the main thing. So I'd visit the dentist for a checkup asap. And then a hygeine appointment if the teeth are healthy.

Yes this is what I was going to say
It's not all about teeth
Tonsil stones literally smell like shit

Deffo agree with tongue scraping! Takes off loads of gunk and h really helps with fresh breath… oh and interdental brushes are better than floss I find!

What do you use to scrape your tongue with?

Because I’ve actually asked someone to check for me and they wouldn’t lie. It’s a very highly rated mouthwash for bad breath.

I am convinced tongue scraping is a con - it will pull off loads of saliva which makes you think it works, but it doesn't do much of anything else.

Dentist is the first port of call as it is the most likely cause, either calculus built up on the teeth which can smell, or infection in the gums or in a tooth. You wouldn't necessarily have pain, though gums will bleed if infected.

If dentist is happy but you can't rid the smell, ENT is the next thing to check. It could be tonsil stones as others have said.

Ime it really really helps with bad breath!
