Facial/head numbness.

I really need help with this. Start of July this year I developed a tiny bit of numbness in my top lip. It was intermittent to start off with. Since then it has progressed to my whole mouth nose forehead, basically my whole head. All day every day, my face is numb and the back of my head feels like wood. Friday night past for a few hours my upper body became numb, upper chest and shoulder on right side. I am 49 and female. I should also say I have pins and needles in my feet and lower legs since then.

Please help if anyone can advise, doctor has referred to neurology but could be a year or more, while this is progressing rapidly.

Have you had bloods done?

And you might want to share the results on here as GPs can sometimes say your blood work is fine but people in here would say no you're only just above the minimum level for whatever and you need a supplement etc.

ie just because your in the range for whatever doesn't mean you're fine, your body may want to have more if something. Iron, b12 and folate are the main ones women with heavy periods miss.

Yes, I've had a range of bloods done. All OK. Iron is fine, B12 was 397, it's been much lower in the past with no issues. Folate is 9.3. They have checked for everything under the sun as far as bloods, all good. I do believe this is Ms, as I'm struggling with my speech at times.

Do you feel stressed or have you been going through a stressful time.

I had the same symptoms as you and was worried it was something serious but doctor asked what was going on in my life and when I explained he said that , my body was reacting to the stress that was happening in life. I made some changes, had a short period of anxiety medication and it’s all stopped.

i do get a numb nose and lips if I get into a prolonged stressful situation at times but it’s massively reduced from the main episode.

Could it Bell's palsy

Tootsey11 · 13/10/2024 12:37

Bells palsy doesn't fit as it all over numbness.

@2chocolateoranges ive a long list of conditions, which probably all cause stress. I'm also menopausal, just out of a long term abusive relationship and finally in one that I'm happy in. Maybe this is all contributing, I don't know.

In my blood tests they done the test for diabetes which came back normal, but my urine is fruity. This all started when I cut my sugar consumption down greatly. I have read that detecting diabetes in a woman is much more difficult than a man.

There's an article on the bbc entitled:

"Man says he has been left to rot after covid vaccine"

Don't know how to post the link but have a read. Maybe some of it could be relevant.

Ask them to refer you for a CT while you wait for the neurology appointment.

I'm glad my GP did this - they said the wait could be a while so they'd refer for a CT and MRI in the meantime so the results were available when the neurology appointment came through. The CT found a brain tumour eighteen months ago; I'm still waiting for the neurology appointment to come through 😅🙄

I had multiple other symptoms along with the numbness, but I'd always recommend anyone who experiences that to ask for a CT or MRI because of my experience.
