Any dentists/dentals nurses/ people who’ve had dry socket about?

Saw emergency dentist after wisdom tooth extraction 3 days prior. I have a dry socket and infection (likely the previous infection from the tooth which has never cleared).
He put in a medicated dressing and poked about I guess to restart the healing process? plus prescribed antibiotics.

He said to leave the dressing in for an hour then remove however I could only get a tiny piece broken off and didn’t want to stick my fingers or tweezers into the wound. When I called the surgery this morning the receptionist said that I can just leave it and it will fall out or disintegrate by itself.

The dressing hasn’t provided much relief as wasn’t in extreme pain, now feels like an uncomfortable foreign object there. I’ve read there are two types of dressings, some that need to be repacked and some that don’t. I’m confused what I should do? The dentist never mentioned needing to repack it.

Any advice appreciated!

The dressing that we use in our surgery is one that smells of cloves and is brown and this just falls out by itself over time and can be redone if the infection doesn't clear or it still hurts. The other dressing I'm not sure about? Have you been doing warm salt rinses? If you haven't then gently rinse 3 times a day, mainly after eating, this will keep it clean. You can call 111 over the weekend if you are in pain or worried, if not then call your practice Monday morning for advice.

Thank you, some more of the dressing dislodged earlier so it feels less ‘stuffed’ and a bit more comfortable.
Just was concerned it may hinder the process if not supposed to be left in there. It was the brown/clove one.

I’ve been gently brushing and doing salt rinses after eating or drinking anything that isn’t water or black tea which has helped. Plus cordsyl a few times a day.

Thank you for the advice, I’ll keep alternating cocodomol and ibuprofen which is managing the pain as long as I take it before it wears off and will call 111/dentist if anything gets any worse.

Im a teeth clencher and grinder which I think is the biggest problem! I’ve noticed today I typically clench my teeth any time I use my arms which is painful!
