A little worried about tests today

To cut a long story short, after my first daughter was born they found I have an autoimmune disease. It's the nastiest one going (name one you think is worse and I can tell you it's not cause this one causes it) so everything is taken seriously by rheumatologists.

I've been getting this weird thing in my leg for awhile where from about half way down my thigh to my foot I lose all sensation and control, from there up into my bum I get pins and needles. So rheumie sent me for nerve conductivity tests.

In case you don't know what these tests are let me explain...

The stick pads on your arm/ leg/ foot/ hand depending which bit they're looking at, similar to what they put on the heart when someone is on a monitor. They then put electric currents (shocks, basically) into nerves to make your toes/ fingers tick and measure how long it takes to get the message to the pad.

Had a doctor do a load of different ones to my legs then was told to come back in an hour so the technician could do some more. This time they put wires on my scalp - all the different coloured wires was like being wired to a bomb! More electric shocks to see how long it takes to get to the brain. My one foot (on the side that gives me trouble) refused to play so they had to turn it up quite high and I was holding the chair feeling very sick.

While she's doing my foot the technician says "do you get problems with your lower back?" Which I do.

After she had done the tests she took the print outs to the doctor. She came back and said "doctor wants me to do your hands in case it affects you there too".

So now I'm worried she saw something! I'm not seeing my doctor until June so I have bit of a wait till I find out what's happening!

On a plus side, TD's mum had Tink at her mum's (Tink's greatnan's) today so I could go to the hospital. Tink's aunty was there and had a spare child seat (she's a childminder) so she took them home to nanny's and left the carseat so Tink's grandad could take her home. So she stayed out all day and came back ready for bed - I couldn't even read her favourite book to her, it was toothbrush time and she wanted bed! So I've had a nice day to myself (even if I am tingling!) I'm even willing to forgive the trip to McD because she ate both meals, she doesn't go there very often anyway (I think this is her 4th trip and the others were over 6 months ago) and Nanny kept her all day!

Can you not call and get some indication of results before then (it seems a bit mean to make you wait that long)

And a kid free day can indeed be a beautiful thing - even if what you are doing isn't big or exciting or pampering

That's much too long for you.. especially as stress affects the immune system. Agree with Fletch, pester make a call as soon as you have a bit of free time when you can assimilate what they tell you. At the very least you could find out why the test results might take so long to come through.

The results will be with the rheume in a fortnight, but my routine appointment isn't till June and that's when they plan on giving me the results. Not sure if they'll tell me over the phone, can only try.
