Does anyone have any ideas as to what this is ? It started jan 2023 base of hairline . It doesn't really itch, just irritates now and again.

Gp has looked at photo prescribed 2 creams but not really made any difference. Has now prescribed Nizoral as have started with bad dandruff this past month . So wash hair and rub neck. He's thinking psoriasis.
I've never had dandruff before,I've done 3 washes which I know may be a bit early to see any results but nothing seems to be getting better loads of dandruff and this sore still the same .
I've attached 2pics pink one 2023 and pink/white is now . If anyone can help thank you !

Looks like dermatitis. Did you change your shampoo around that time? My bro had something similar when he hit his 40's. Can be an age related development. I believe some hydrocortisone cream did the trick.

Use vosene or t-gel shampoo, have coal tar and anti fungal. Looks like psoriasis.

nokidshere · 07/10/2024 14:04

Looks like psoriasis to me. The flaky skin and redness is exactly the same as mine which I've had all of my life.

Sallydimebar · 07/10/2024 14:08

Yes i possibly could of changed shampoos when we've been away and I'm
43 .Hydrocortisone was the 1st cream I tried. Maybe i give it another go, it seemed to shrink it just didn't clear it. I've tried Dovonex ointment for 4 weeks but no change.

Thank you all ! i will have a deeper look into Psoriasis as a quick look tells me it can come on with hormonal changes and common in women in their 40s.
I thought it was something people had their whole life.
Periods have been funny as well so maybe my hormones.

I get that with certain shampoos. If I use Head and Shoulders for Itchy scalp I'm fine.

dizzydizzydizzy · 08/10/2024 11:58

I had something that looked like
That in much the same position. I happened to be seeing a dermatologist about something else but showed them my scalp too and they prescribed Elocon which completely sorted out within days.

Looks like psoriasis which I have had for the past 30 years. In my experience the GP never prescribes a strong enough steroid application. Elocon as mentioned above is stronger then the norm and would do the trick. They make specific steroid scalp applications too

I get something similar but no dandruff and it itches. Gp tested it for seborrhoeic dermatitis which is what all the medicated shampoos like Nizoral treat. It came back negative....and when I used those shampoos it got worse and ended up getting infected. Mine seems linked to stress, it flares up, I use hydrocortisone for a few days and it goes for maybe a month or so. I do wonder if it's hormonal. Never bothered going back to the gp as it is easy enough to manage.

boobybum · 10/10/2024 17:31

Could it be fungal? Have you tried something like clotrimazole anti fungal cream (such as Canesten)?

Sallydimebar · 11/10/2024 10:23

Thanks all ! I will look into that @dizzydizzydizzy I probably need to see a dermatologist. I'm trying to be patient and give each treatment Gp prescribes time to work, it says 4 weeks on Nizoral but so far nothings changed still same size and irritating in the evening. Scalp still covered in flakey dandruff.

When it first appeared the skin below it was rough like a large part down back of neck, Dovonex cleared that up but didn't do much to this part. It's just sat there for nearly 2 years.
