B12 results not making sense to me

Morning !

I am someone who is always unwell. It is draining, I wake up nauseous, I spend the day with aching muscles and chest tightness/pain, always have a headache and eye pain, and my joint/muscles are so sore.

Doctors have treated me for anxiety as well as low iron, but I'm thinking it is more a b12 issue.

I had my B12 checked months ago and the came back as fine, no need for further monitoring (184 ng/l).

Recently a friend of mine told me this isn't necessarily fine, and I may benefit from injections.

Can anyone tell me if this is worth it, I have wasted money on so may supplements over the lays few years and none have worked !

Just to say that not everyone is able to absorb oral B12 sufficiently, hence injections being one mode of treatment. If you fall in that category then oral supplements may not be that helpful.

You fall in the possible deficiency range (only just above the confirmed deficiency), and as you have symptoms should probably have some more investigations. Maybe wave the NICE guidelines under your GPs nose just to remind them of best practice..

Thank you. That's helpful. I just couldn't work out whether I was low if the doctors weren't concerned.

I think it can depend on the Dr and their speciality/area of interest. My GP wasn’t that worried, my gastro was, as my condition affects the part of my gut that absorbs B12. He insisted on me starting injections. It’s made a big difference. Hope you can get something sorted to help.
