Pale/white poo, stressed out mama!

Hi all,
Hoping to hear from people with similar experiences for some peace of mind. For as long as I can remember DD (7) has done quite pale poos - tan to light tan colour. She normally does a poo every day or every other day. To my surprise I saw a white poo other day, like chalk. The next one was mostly her normal colour woth one white bit. The Internet says all kinds of horrific things like liver disease so naturally, I'm panicking big style.
DD had some tests done not long ago regarding an unrelated issue (all fine), blood tests included a liver function test which was fine. The only thing that came up was a slight elevation in serum amylase ( pancreas?) but the paediatrician said this was "clinically insignificant". An ultrasound was done on kidney, liver etc and all was good.
I don't want to stress my daughter out with taking her to the doctor unnecessarily bit I'm terrified something is very wrong. I have health anxiety so I know I have the tenandcy to overthink, the other half is complete opposite and just tells me DD is fine, there is no issue. DD is fine in herself, no growth concerns, happy and healthy otherwise.
Would be great to hear from anyone who has experienced something similar.

It's worth mentioning to the doctor. It could be everything or it could be nothing. You don't need to make a big deal out of it until you know better. If you can email your doctor you could send pics of her poop (lovely!), if not then a telephone appointment would cover it at this stage. If the doctor is worried he'll want to take it further. If not then obviously you can relax.

DN had similar he has been diagnosed as celiac and dairy allergy he has removed that from his diet all good. I’m not saying to avoid those things, just letting you know that a food allergy can produce this. Speak to doctor and get more tests

Thanks, DD had a coeliac screen as part of blood test, not sure how accurate those are, was the diagnosis straightforward?

Took a couple more tests but I think it was pretty straightforward after that.

good luck x

DS had almost white poo after a stomach bug once and then it went back to normal. It was quite disconcerting at the time!

anicecuppateaa · 07/10/2024 06:09

Yep my dc have had chalk white poos after stomach bugs and took a while to go. My older dc had white poos when she wasn’t absorbing nutrients properly but that was an extreme case and she was medically complex which I assume isn’t the case here.

If it’s a one off I would leave it. Check again in a few days (in case its a stomach bug issue), and if still happening I would see the GO with photos.

Thanks for responses everybody. Poo this morning was brown. Browner than normal actually! Will chalk it up to one of those odd things but keep an eye, think I just spiralled when blood tests showed a slightly elevated marker, I assumed something had been missed by dr without knowing the white poo symptom.
Maybe DD had a tummy thing going on, she is pretty sturdy so normally doesn't get phased when any illness hits.
