I have woken up with this today and one side of my face /eye is throbbing so much I feel sick.I have taken paracetomol but no relief.I really want to avoid the gp for a day or 2 as I had 4 lots of ABs in the last 2 months for a kidney infection and just can't face them again!Any advice I'd be so gratefulxx

Sorry you feel so bad, agree with Hausfrau, get some decongestants and steam. I always put a bit of Olbas oil in water, but plain water will do. One word of warning, I do find that the first steam often makes me feel temporarily worse as things start moving, just keep at it. Hope it goes soon, it is truly miserable.

The thing that really worked for me when I had almost constant sinusitis, and was lurching from one set of antib's to another was to eat nothing but fruit and vegetables for a few days -- no starches, no milk, no wheat etc etc.

You do get very hungry, but when I'm desperate enough, it's a small price to pay. It does work, though I couldn't say why.

As an alternative to oral antibiotics, you can get antibiotic drops for the nose, which won't have such a powerful effect on your system, but should still help get rid of it.

I am waiting for dp as i turned off the pc to go out to get something for this and I nearly threw up(sorry)I have steamed with a bit of vicks in the bowl and have put one of those breath right nose strips I think this has relieved some of the pressure I would try anything frogs and will give the food thing a go too xx

You have my sympathies- I had it over Christmas and it was miserable. I have one of those cushions things filled with some kind of heavy beads that you can heat in the microwave, and it did help to hold that against my face (looked bloody ridiculous, of course!). I hope you feel better soon. xx

noddyholder · 07/01/2005 12:41

dp has one of those cushions for his dodgy neck am off to find it now

Good, I hope it helps- the relief doesn't last long but at least it gives you a few minutes' respite.

Sudafed definitely, works well and quickly. Like the sound of the cusion, must invest in one! Keeping off dairy will reduce mucus-production (yuck!).

If it persists, try acupuncture which I finally tried after my best mate nagged me for three years...and which worked, for me. Sound like complementary zealot, I know, but it does keep my lifelong sinusitis under control.

rosies · 07/01/2005 15:58

and as another complementary therapy zealot... i advocate reflexology!
