Obtaining Access Log - Medical Records

CloudgazerCat · 04/10/2024 16:07

I asked my GP practice to provide me details of who has accessed my GP records for a specific period of time. I requested the equivalent of the local hospital who generated access log reports which they sent to me.

The GP surgery is refusing to send me the GP record access logs. I have reason to believe someone on their staff has unlawfully accessed my records. The fact that they are refusing to disclose this information makes me even more suspicious.

What do I do now?

Do you mean someone at the GP surgery has accessed your records? Or someone outside of the surgery like a portal from home?

The correct person to speak to is the designated Caldicott Guardian, this is usually the practice manager. Put everything in writing.

Maybe you need to rephrase the question and ask if xyz has accessed your notes?

Does the person work in both the hospital and hospital settings? I don’t think you can access the doctors notes from the hospital, or vice versa?

why do you think they have been accessing your notes? If they have been breaching confidentiality, you should just put in a suitable complaint about that person.

From my experience, every member of staff can access patients records, unless a block has been put on it, from the receptionist to document handler to gp. Most people would be surprised how many people work behind the scenes at a gp’s surgery.

I don't think you could request this information. You could tell them you suspect that X has accessed your information inappropriately and ask them to investigate, but you may not be informed of the outcome (depending on what they find)
