Very worried. Numb eyelids?

Since Monday morning I’ve had a heavy feeling eyelid with a loss of feeling, especially on the top lid. It looks normal until I blink and then it’s slightly slower to blink than the other eyelid but you have to really look to notice it.

I’ve seen my GP who has told me to see an eye doctor which I’m booking but will need to wait to get an appointment.

What could this be?? I am so scared!

Have a look at Ptosis and see if that fits?

Can you contact your local optometrist / Specsavers type place and see if they can triage you or send you to the eye hospital in your area?

In Plymouth area we need a referral, we can't just rock up at the eye hospital for example.

I saw this but the eyelid looks normal, it isn’t drooping. I’ve got a referral to see an eye doctor and luckily have health insurance, so will book the soonest appointment but in the meantime I’m scared.

But you may be able to see an optician today or tomorrow and get an immediate referral.

It's your choice. But I'd make the phone call.

There are a few nerves which supply the eyelids, so it's not very straightforward (which is why your GP has referred you!).
Do your pupils look the same size?
Any double vision?
Are you getting any tingling around the eye area?
Any other health problems, medications, symptoms?
How old are you?

Yes they are the same size, vision normal, no tingling, it’s been a stressful year which has resulted (along with coming off contraception) in hair loss and scalp psoriasis which I’m being treated for with steroid gel (which I did get in my eye a few days ago although can’t remember which eye and GP said unlikely to have caused this).

Hasn’t been stressful enough for my hair to fall out and eye to go numb to be honest!!! Although I sincerely hope it is stress related.

I am 32.

Seeing consultant eye doctor tomorrow.

Hope it goes okay. You can get eyelash psoriasis, but honestly without seeing you, I'd be guessing.

How did it go today OP?

Thank you for checking in. They consultant didn’t know what it was and described it as very strange for both sensation and movement to be affected.

Said I’m right to be worried and that I need to see a neurologist (booked for Monday) and have an MRI.

I have a 1 year old daughter, I’m terrified.

It is a bit strange.
Glad you’re being seen so quickly.
