What is this fatigue ?

I have posted here before due to food poisoning where I was hospitalised, slow recovery including tachycardia. In July - till now .
I've also written on the ferritin threads and was given an iron infusion in hospital.
Everything seems to be going back to normal bowel wise , though still lots of symptoms and eg bloating , gurgling and farting !
The main symptom I'm left with is absolute exhaustion! I just feel so tired all the time .
I had all bloods done which were normal .
I'm really worried I'm going into a chronic fatigue - can anyone help or is this normal ?

Is there any pattern to the fatigue or is it all the time?

rubyslipperss · 01/10/2024 17:29

Thanks @Robinhair it's all the time . When I wake up I'm already tired and if I don't get 8-9 hours sleep like today I feel worse !
Normally I can get by on 6-7 .
I was told by GP recovery could take 3 months and it's only really been 2 so maybe I just have a way to go but I just can't see light at the end of the tunnel atm .

@rubyslipperss You have my sympathy, I’m off work with awful fatigue following Covid which sounds similar. Are you going back to have the ferritin checked? Ive also got low ferritin in the mix too.

Also before I forget did your gp mention deconditioning fatigue? There’s a bit of a viscous circle with post illness fatigue in that you get tired as you are deconditioned and then even more deconditioned as you’re tired, awful!!

rubyslipperss · 01/10/2024 18:23

Sorry to hear you are having a bad time after Covid . I too have had following Covid.
Do you feel like you're improving? Have you had bloods done?
I am probably panicking as my DD now has CFS following a gastro infection. Her whole life changed in a week.
I wrote on someone else's thread recently to write down tiny improvements every day.. I seem to be having one improvement per week. !!
Yes, definitely there is an element of deconditioning. I don't think it takes an adult long to decondition at all. I read 3 weeks .
I was really struggling to walk upstairs without getting really breathless today.

@rubyslipperss Oh no try not to to project too far into the future (says me who’s spent a whole day doing the same!)

Its hard to tell as im in a bit of a funk with it all, I’ve got really anxious as I’ve had almost like pots symptoms and all sorts alongside this bloody awful fatigue so I’ve not been testing out my normal life if you know what I mean.

Even if it is 1 improvement a week that’s really good even though I know it doesn’t feel like it. I think with the postviral symptoms the main advice seems to be plenty of rest, plenty of the good stuff - water, fruit and veg, avoid stress.

Im just awaiting another appointment with my gp. I’m sorry about your daughter being unwell, it sounds tough if you also feel ill. What a bugger Covid and the rest are. @rubyslipperss

Ahh my DD has pots too and I also feel like I've had similar symptoms to her- high HR when I stand or walk, though that does seam to be improving slightly. I don't have the fluctuations in Standing blood pressure that she does. She's actually not too bad now though, and she's at uni and manages it fairly well day today.
How long have you been off work for with Covid?

Some days I feel a bit better but still ongoing unfortunately. How are you getting on?

rubyslipperss · 10/10/2024 19:56

About the same ! I'm thinking about going off sick again and just really slowing my pace . not managing much . Sorry to hear it the same for you . Having my ferritin checked tomorrow.

Oh no. Sorry @rubyslipperss ugh I’m having a right time of it and thinking of giving my notice in to my job, it’s really clouded everything.

rubyslipperss · 11/10/2024 09:30

Oh no @Robinhair how long has yours gone on for ? Can you have more time off ? Speak to HR?

My GP talked about this yesterday. I gave up the gym etc - she said walking was good but also do 10-15 mins Pilates everyday to stop becoming deconditioned- she thinks that is a big part of it . I have been swimming and 10 mins of that actually makes me feel better a bit energy wise .
What are you managing ?

I used to walk a lot every day, 6 or 7 miles but unfortunately down to zilch due to horrible dizziness on exertion!

That’s good what your gp said, it’s really important to keep conditioned and keep blood from pooling in extremities - obviously within your limits.

My work have been so brilliant, I just keep getting down about not being back to myself yet and scared of being off again.

rubyslipperss · 12/10/2024 13:23

How long has it been now ? Same- well I didn't walk 6-7 miles a day but probably tried for 10 k steps and was going to the gym and swimming .
Can you try doing some supine exercises ? My DD does these when she has a POTS flare .
Sorry about work - I don't know how I'm managing PT tbh apart from they are letting me wfh quite a bit . I have this awful lull in the middle of the day it's horrible .
