lo adored milk/was hungry baby and at times when less then 6 months was having 12 bottles a day...of varying amounts of course

but now news that BPA is toxic and all such bottles banned in canada - i feel so guilty.

been steam sterilising all my bottles in avent steriliser and then pouring cooled but still very hot boiled water in my avent bottles and oh gee i feel bad!!

apparently this is real bad for babies! cancer and hormone disrupting big time

must have really exposed little one to bisphenol big time! huge doses!

upset

the report as far as I can see is full of "may be", "possible" and "slight".

I really don't think it's worth worrying about, especially as there is nothing you can do about it now. there are loads of things in our environment that increase our risks of getting lots of nasty diseases, but we really can't live in a sterile bubble.

Change to some non BPA bottles if you are worried and try to relax or you'll make yourself ill.

loopylou6 · 22/04/2008 16:11

Sorry to be dim, but what is BPA

ImightbeLulumama · 22/04/2008 16:13

read something simialr and like daisy, i think it is a spurious report. it is all about a very small , possible risk. and i really don;t think you should torture yourself about it now.

lackaDAISYcal · 22/04/2008 17:54

loopy, its bisphenol-A, a plastic used in baby bottles, amongst other things, like the coating inside sweetcorn tins and food containers.

Think you're reacting to scaremongering articles tbh. seems Nestle (and theri undoubted marketing power) have jumped on the band wagon too. There seems very tenuous "evidence" that such exposure creates harmful levels.here Like MMR it is one of those things that surfaces as a risk factor every so often and plays on underlying anxieties . Try not to beat yourself up, you can only do your best at the time and this seems unfounded.

streuth

have you really nothing better to worry about than a spurious report like this?

unless of course you live in a completely toxin free environment and nowhere near electricity pylons, mobile phone masts, any pollutants such as cars etc etc

NorthernLurker · 22/04/2008 18:17

Look - we could be prediposing them to who knows what via our genetic inheritance - give yourself a break!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 22/04/2008 18:35

You shouldnt worry yourself too much. There is little you can do, and, you did it unwittingly so there is no reason to feel bad.

You are right to be concerned though. Although a great many reports of such findings are small, and often unsubstantiated or misinterpreted, I think it is important to take on board such things, and find out what you can if you are someone who may, or does, use such products.

There are lots of things we are finding out about all the time that we thought was safe but are now found not to be, or thought was good for us, but actually makes no difference.
