Root canal treatment cost?

Hi all

Going back to the dentist on Tuesday and it looks like I might need to have the root canal treatment done.

I'm with an NHS practice but not sure what to expect in regard to cost ?

I've had a look online and it seems to suggest anything from £300-£1000? 🙈

Would this be an acceptable price? At the cost of £1000 I'd rather have it removed and put a dental implant in place

I thought the max you had to pay for treatment on the nhs was £319 ?

However if you want a fancy white result so the tooth looks perfect again rather than whatever it is the nhs put in your fillings that could be more?

If you have an NHS place then root canal is covered under band 2 - it’s about £80 I think, and additional £300 if you need a crown.
NHS dental treatment isn’t what it used to be in my opinion - cutting corners and not doing a decent job. £80 for root canal doesn’t even cover the costs.
I recently had an NHS root canal redone privately (crack in the filling and X-rays showed some of the root left behind) and replaced with a crown - total cost about £1800. An implant would have been closer to £5k.

I had a root canal done very recently NHS it was band 2 £80. Don't believe the horror stories either it was painless and Iam the biggest wimp I know!

Was that £1000 nhs?

I ask because the OP is looking for nhs costs and as far as I can see there is a maximum you can be charged? So it's likely be helpful if you could explain why yours was so dear?

@DeliciousApples

The poster has said that she had some NHS work redone privately - so the £1800 was private charges .

There is a maximum NHS charge of around £300 and the whatever you have done under that particular agreed treatment plan will be charged at the maximum rate - eg I've had dentures, a filling, x-rays and a couple of emergency visits in between my planned visits and I just had to pay the NHS max cost for the whole lot. It is just the basic work though so if you want any different to what is offered you are likely to have to pay private charges and I think most dentists do both .
