Shortness of breath waking me up!

It happened twice past night. I woke up at midnight biting at the air and forcing myself to yawn as I just could get the oxygen I needed. My heart was thumping.

The 1st time made me a bit dizzy, but I got up had some water and it subsided.

The second time it woke me at 5am caused a panic type attack. I was hyperventilating and began shivering. My she was able to calm me
down, and I fell asleep.

But the whole time, including now I just feel like I’m not getting enough oxygen when I breath!

I’ve been suffering with heart palpitations for approx 3 years. Docs can’t find any issues, but they’ve only ever done long term ecgs or blood tests. The ecgs have shown palpitations such as racing heart at rest, and skipping a beat, but apparently they’re nothing to worry about.

I’m going to contact go on Monday.

Sleep apnea is more than just snoring. It’s an interruption in your breathing or body movement interrupting your sleep cycle. Thin active mostly healthy people can have sleep apnea. The sudden awakening feeling short of breath would be very typical presentation. Do you feel rested during the day? Sleep study heart monitor for 7 days blood work and ekg would be my asks at your appointment.

The symptom you describe is shortness of breath or breathlessness. Are you still feeling short of breath today? Any pain? If either you should seek medical advice today.
Night time breathing difficulties can include sleep apnoea, heart failure and acid reflux as well as all the other causes of breathlessness of which there are many - eg pneumonia, heart failure , PE, COPD etc etc.

Your ferritin should not be 11! GPS seems to be so bad at leaving women with very low iron and not flagging it up. I had the same but when I pointed put that my iron was very low they did at least agree and do some further tests.
Push your gp on this once you get your results. Thyroid levels too often get dismissed as not an issue.
I use the 10mg iron spray and it's really helped.

I took ferrous Fumarate for low ferritin, not just any iron.
Palpatations and feeling like I had to take a deep breath occasionally were two of my symptoms.

Edited

This is how I’ve been feeling today. Big deep breaths to keep me going. Like I’m chomping for air

Do you know if your oxygen is low. If you dont have a smart watch pulse oximeters are cheap. It could also be panic.

Pulse oximeters way more reliable than watches, so worth getting one

@oObyeOo I know this post is old but did you ever get to the bottom of your issue and have your symptoms resolved? I have something similar

Hi, I still get it but much less now. I’ve had a chat with a cbt therapist and I know that it is panic disorder.

Apparently when your brain switches off at night it can cause panic attacks due to stressors in your life
