Advice on skin tag removal

Hi all - I'm hoping someone can help me with a bit of advice. I have three small lumps on my face - two on my upper lip, and one by theside of my nose. The one on the side of my nose is flesh cloured and not really a problem, the other two are reddish and one in particular is very noticeable.(Think Mrs Doyle in Father Ted). I think they're skin tags, but they're raised from the skin and round, not flappy. I've always had the larger one on my lip, but it has become a lot more noticeable and redder with age, to the extent that I want it removed. I screwed up the courage to go to my dr, but he was spectacularly unhelpful and just said it was cosmetic I would have to go private, but could give me no guidelines on cost or who to go to.

I'm not a cosmetic surgery type of person at all,and don't know what to do- where do you get drs names from? Is it a good idea to go to a clinic like Transform,(found after searching on the internet for skin lesion removal) or will they be expensive/rubbish or pressure me into having morework done? I want to emerge from this with some self esteem intact but minus the witchy bumps! Any help/advice would be much appreciated. I feel too embarrassed to discuss it with anyone in RL.

If it is a skin tag, it can be frozen and then falls off itself. Painless and mega-quick!
I had one under my arm removed by my gp, took seconds.

I think you should speak to your gp again and let him/her know that you are self-concious about it.

Don't tie a bit of cotton round them! I did this with a skin tag on my neck. It hurt like buggery but in the end it went purple and then fell off. I then found out it could have got infected so it was very stupid of me!

go to gp. Apparently you can have something done under local anaesthetic that sort of burns them off, some gp surgeries do it.

Thanks alistairSim- but they will definitely need cutting out/off - they aren't like skin tags with a stalk, but like a raised lump - a bit like a wart.(lovely!) I did tell him I'm self conscious, but he didn't take any notice. The funny thing is I've had the two on my lip for ever but have only recently got really conscious of them.Off to cook the tea but if anyone else has any advice I'd be grateful.

my dh had one cut off. It needed three stitches, so was fairly large.

maybe just phone your local private hospital?

hifi · 21/04/2008 18:00

i had one on my leg, local anesthetic, where do yo live?

hifi · 21/04/2008 18:13

actually mine has left quite a scar as they took more out than was there as they needed to check if it was cancerous or not. i would imagine yours would need to be a bit more delicate as its on your face.
i went to st johns and st elizabeth's in London, you can ring them and they will recommend someone and then go for a consultation, about £150 to £200, i think my procedure was about £500.

I am in Manchester. The big one is at the stage when I'd rather have a small scar than the lump! That's reassuring about the cost - just to have a bench mark figure. I think there are some private hospitals in Manchester - I will go and search - thank you everyone.(If anyone has any Manchester based experience I'd be grateful!)
