DS in pain with two infected toenails - month's wait for removal - what to do?

DS has had ingrown toenails on both of his big toes and both have been infected for months. He's seen a podiatrist a number of times and has had antibiotic cream, but the infections are getting worse. He's now at college on a course that requires him to be on his feet all day and he's in enormous pain. Every time he's home, he goes barefoot and soaks his feet every evening. He's booked in for nail avulsion mid October but he's not going to be able to last that long. Is there anything else we can do?

I've looked at going private, but it's no quicker.

Thanks in advance for any advice or experience.

My DD went to the doctors and had hers dressed twice a week while she waited. I also bought shoes the next size up. They used inadine dressings and another special dressing. They really helped. She also had antibiotics when needed. We got put on a cancellation list and we were seen sooner. I did try and get hers done privately but they referred us back to the NhS. Good news is hers haven't been an issue since.

Weirdly mine cleared up when I let the nail grow longer than the top of my toe. I think I caused the ingrowing by cutting them too short and in at the sides. Now I leave them longer and have not had a problem since ( touch wood!)

rubyflewtoo about 30 minutes, it'll fizz if it can get to the bacteria, it's them oxidising as they perish. If it stops fizzing wipe away any gunk and put foot back in.

My DD's grow/grew in a shape that causes them to go ingrown. It varies why they go ingrown. It runs on my Husbands side of the family. My nephew has recently had his done.

@JanefromLondon1
thanks - giving it a go after another useless trip to a&e. The peroxide is the only thing that seems to be getting rid of the overgranulation, so 🤞 it’ll help it heal.
