Constant nose run/mucus build up

Hello

I'm not sure how to word this... but I've been struggling with it for years now..

So I have a CONSTANT nose run.
I can't go anywhere without a tissue up my sleeve. (My nose is running now🤣)

When I'm anxious my nose runs non stop. So walking down the aisle on my wedding day... I was shoo'ing.
But it runs even when I'm feeling OK.

If I go out to eat, I feel mucus build up in my nose and then back of throat. To the point, it gets so full, I can't talk. My breathing rate is usually faster for some reason even if I think I'm relaxed? But every time I go out to eat and I'm chatting away, my breathing is faster and mucus builds up at the back of my throat.... making it hard to talk. So I have to pause.

I did go to the doctors about it about 10 years ago and he laughed at me not knowing what the issue is.
He suggested I take an antihistamine before going out.

Anyone in a similar situation or know what I'm talking about?😳

This was me for DECADES. Sneezing and constant stream of snot as this as water just running out of my nose. I didn’t even feel blocked up - it just ran and ran. Sometimes I wanted to shove loo roll up my nostrils to stem the flow!

I tried the daily histamine, loads of nasal sprays… Amazingly after literally 20+ years I have finally found one that works: it has to contain Mometasone Furoate.

Nasonex is a branded version but I get just a generic on prescription. You can buy it online too, you’ll have to complete a questionnaire/ online consultation form.

Yes, mine is flexinase, however they are expensive if not on prescription.

I do have back ups of dymista and nasonex in the drawer

Interesting... I seem to have had this sort of thing for the last couple of years, I assumed I'd developed some sort of allergy.

Velvian · 27/09/2024 08:08

This is all really interesting, thanks for starting the thread, OP.

I have always had a streaming nose, but it really ramped up 3.5 years ago. I've tried a steroid nasal spray, which worked to some extent, but it goes off after 2 months and yiu gave to discard it, so I gave up with it. I take an antihistamine every day, sometimes 2 if it is really bad.

Any emotion (particularly anger) and I stream! The worsening 3 years ago coincided with getting a dog and having Covid for the first time. I think I've discounted the dog, as it is just as bad on dog free holidays.

I'm interested in the reflux thing, that had never occurred to me. I do get reflux, but have ignored it as I really don't want to go on a PPI due to family medical history. I will definitely try to cut out lactose, as that should be easy enough.

This is really interesting. I thought I'd just developed allergies but I think it may be this...

I have had silent reflux for years , but over the past three months been taking 2 tablespoons of olive oil each morning so far no acid reflux, good quality olive oil. I was taking omprazol for yes but suddenly started to feel nausea a lot so g.pstopped them

soupfiend · 28/09/2024 09:53

extra virgin or normal?

soupfiend · 28/09/2024 09:53

and on an empty somatch or not?

Brinny · 28/09/2024 19:16

I have the Greek olive oil from Sainsbury's, it's expensive but it's pure, in the tin, in the morning before breakfast .

soupfiend · 28/09/2024 19:23

I take it, its extra virgin?

Sorry ,yes it is , it tastes slightly bitter but that's. Because it's a first press, I hope it works for you , also Alovera juice I have tried prior that worked for a while .

soupfiend · 28/09/2024 19:38

I like greek oil, not keen on Italian

I might try this.

Yes I found Italian ones really bitter , the reason I turned to Greek was I visited a olive farm and discovered they don't use plastic or glass the very best olive oil producers use tin to store oil as this does not taint the oil and it keeps all it s benefits when stored in a tin,

@Brinny, 2 tablespoons is a lot, is it really disgusting first thing?

Not really I have got used to it , lol but I have toast and honey ready to eat afterwards , my husband now takes it and he is seeing the benefits, but it may not work for all, since I have been taking it so many people have suggested it as well to me, and it's natural .x

The book 'breath' by James Nestor is an interesting read. It's got some breathing exercises too. I now use a neti pot morning and night, give myself a sinus massage with castor oil and tape my mouth shut at night. I also use a tiny humidifier at night and put a little Shea butter up my nose. I didn't want to spray something up there for ever so I'm trying alternative things.
I have post nasal drip so a yucky taste at the back of my mouth and constant blocked out runny nose. This has definitely improved it. Good luck.

Do you get any ear ache or jaw pain with this?
