2 years on and my pelvic floor muscles are still really weak. Just wondering if one of those, erm, thingies that go in your fanjo to show you if you're doing Kegels properly would help? anyone used one of these and did it work for you? any ideas where to buy them would be great too!

5 years on and mine are dreadful - have to cross legs whilst sneezing coughing etc. Do you mean the £200 ones which do all the work for you with electric pulse? Ive heard they sort you out in 8 weeks. Will be interested to see if anyone has used one and if they actually work. I know you can get them on the NHS if you have had a prolapsed womb but not for plain old incontinence!

needahand · 21/04/2008 12:23

I did buy a pelvic toner after DD. I think it cost about £50. Money well spent. It definitely works and help a lot especially at the beginning when your muscles are too weak for you to know if they are working properly. Will use them as soon as I can this time too.

It is not very comfy to start with but it is better than a life of incontinence

Saje, I have a fairly severe prolpase and my gynae laughed at me when I asked if they were available on the NHS. Do you know this for definite? Would like to ask my gynae again. Thanks.

saje · 21/04/2008 12:32

Hi Suwoo - it was a friend of a friend who told me she had been given one to take home after coming out of hospital. She prolapsed after her 3rd child so i dont know if this would have anything to do with it? Did your gynea say no because of the cost or was it he/she didnt rate them? Ive just looked at some ebay shops and there are afew of them on there - between £60 and £100.

saje · 21/04/2008 12:34

needahand - when you say not very comfy do you mean PAIN?

suwoo · 21/04/2008 13:23

Not sure really, she just referred me back to physio. I've had the prolapse for 6 years and it is just starting to worsen after my 2nd DC was born, although he is 16 months now.

needahand · 21/04/2008 14:16

Saje - no no pain just uncomfy. It isn't particularly nice to have something pulsating and pulling your muscles in your nether regions. But you get used to it and it really works well. I would heartily recommend, it is money well spent.

I can't find the one I bought (was years ago and from the maker of mama tens) but it was somehting like this.

the electronic one sounds a little scary!

i'm sure i remember seeing something advertised years ago that was sort of phallic looking and didn't send any electronic pulses but basically the idea was to tense you muscles and the thingy responded somehow to let you know that you'd tensed them correctly. Or maybe i dreamt it

totalmisfit I think you're talking about the Pelvic Toner,it is indeed phallic looking and you put springs in it. The idea is that you have to copletely close it using your vag muscles then gradually increase reps / resistance by using stronger springs. I bought one in a fit of panic before dd2 was born and have used it a few times.Don't really know how well it works though as mw stiched me up much better this time and fanjo feels better than before ! Designer vagina courtesy of NHS !

booblies · 21/04/2008 15:52

Oh forgot to say it's not uncomfortable to use just a bit embarrassing if DH walks in on you

needahand · 21/04/2008 15:53

totalmisfit the one you are refereing to is called pelvictoner I think, but it only works if you already have some muscles. After my DD if found that when I was doint my PF exercises nothing happened. The electronic ones send an electric signal to your muscles and help them contracting which is good for women with useless pf muscles like I had. After a while you can then move to the pelvictoner.

totalmisfit · 21/04/2008 16:25

ah - thanks, nice to know it didn't spring from my overactive imagination, lol!

booblies & needahand - where did you buy yours? i've looked on the NCT website and couldn't see anything remotely similar...

Just google Pelvictoner, I got mine from an on line store but forget which one.

needahand · 21/04/2008 16:51

I bought mine online. Couldn't bear the shame of having to go to a shop! bought mine three years ago, but I am sure that if you do a google search loads of things will come up.

I know you can also rent the electronic ones, but when I thought that I would have more children, I thought it was worth (and probably cheaper) to buy one. I see it as a lifetime investment!

Nemoandthefishes · 21/04/2008 17:01
