Dd2 is ill. Can't keep anything down - even water. Should I be doing anything?

I know to give her water anyway, even if she throws it back up again, I know to keep her snuggly and as comfy as poss.

Is there anything else that I should be thinking of doing?

Any medicine or something that I should be telling dp to buy from the chemist?

She's 3.10

Thanks.

xx

she's currently playing with ds's hobby horse while ds screams "give it back to me!!!!" she's just looked at him and said "I'm ill. You have to let me play with it"

I think she's going to be ok....

When my little one had a sickness bug and refused to drink dirolite (don't blame him as it is nasty) my doc said to give him Lucozade sport as that rehydrates and tastes nicer.

bossybritches · 21/04/2008 21:46

How is she tonight Squonk?

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 22/04/2008 11:59

she's not really much better today, guys. but her temp doesn't seem as bad.

Will see how we get on today and if she's no better tomorrow, it's the docs.

Afternoon Squonk (((waves franticaly at a friend I havn't chatted to in ages))). So sorry to hear you have apoorly one. I had this at the beginning of the hols with ds3. We were told he had gasterentirtis . Stuff was passing from both ends. Poor fellow still isn't over it properly now. Plus he has picked up a terrible cough. So hes sill not back to school. He hasn't realy eaten a 'proper' meal for 2 weeks now but we have made sure hes drinking loads.
Realy hope shes on the mend soon.
Oh yeah the doc told us flat fizzy drinks are good because of the suger and glucose content but we bought ds3 some Lukozade Sport which is flat and he realy enjoyed it. We called it his special drink which I think made it all the more appealing.
Good luck xx

poor mini squonk

try ice cubes or ice lollies? or a medicine syringe of water to gently squirt in a drop at a time?

if she is not keeping anything down, i would go to teh docs .

Sorry to hear she's not better, Squonk. What did the doctor say?

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 23/04/2008 09:02

called the doc at about 5 last night. They said that they wouldn't be able to get out to see her till after 8, but I could take her straight in and they would see her straight away.

Dd1 stayed at home to look after ds and I rang dp and told him that I wouldn't after all be picking him up from the pub in Hull where he was waiting for me after all (he'd been at the university for some extra training and there's no way home from there)

Doc said that she wasn't dehydrated (and the rehydration drink I'd been giving her was super, so thanks for that) but she was concerned that her temp was still 39 (102) and calpol wasn't bringing it down. She rang the hospital and they said to pack a bag and bring her in.

So... popped home to bung some clean knickers in my handbag, drove to hospital (via pub to pick up dp) and they whisked us straight through. A & E was ridiculously busy but they said we were expected on the ward and took us straight up.

Various doctors, nurses, tea-makers etc. came and went, some examined her, some just tickled her and each doc said that they wanted a more senior doc to see her as they weren't sure what to do.

Eventually, the paeds consultant said we could take her home.

She has a virus apparently. They said that is she deteriorates or we are worried, we are to ring them and take her straight back to the ward (gave us the direct line) and gave us some kiddie ibuprofen stuff.

Called at the kebab shop on the way home as I hadn't had any tea and dp had skipped lunch and not had any tea, so we were a tad hungry and finally got home just before midnight.

Dp taken the day off work today to "help" so I won't be around (don't want him to know what I actually do when he's at work )

Thanks everyone for all your advice and good wishes over the last couple of days, you really stopped me from panicking and helped me to actually do constructive stuff to help her.

Will let you know how she is over the next couple of days.

PS. the docs and nurses at Hull Royal are all fab.
