IBS and extreme bloating

I’ve had IBS for 30 years so am no stranger to bloating, excess wind and crampy stomach pain. I’ve been thoroughly checked out for other potential issues a few times over the years, most recently a couple of years ago, and everything sinister has always been ruled out. The specialist I saw most recently put me on buscopan, omeprazole and low dose amitriptyline which did wonders to control it until a couple of months ago.

Since then I’ve had a lot more cramping and bloating than usual, plus a lot of painful wind, and in the last week or two the bloat has been awful and constant. It changes in intensity through the day but I never have a time that I’m not even averagely bloated. At one point today I had pain so sudden and severe that I was worried I could have something like appendicitis until a few minutes later I felt it bubble and move along to a different spot in my intestines.

I’m not having red flag symptoms, so have just booked a routine appointment with the doctor, but that’s a week away and I’m so uncomfortable. Is there anything beyond what I’m taking which could help ease the bloating until then? Thanks in advance.

Mint tea.

Simeticone is good. There's a gel you can buy which I find is brilliant. It's in a white bottle and I can't remember the name which is annoying. Ask in the chemist though.

Mint tea.

I do normally find that helps, but at the moment it’s like throwing a teacup of water on a house fire!

Definitely worth a try, I’ll ask the pharmacist about it. Thank you 😊

It hasn't resolved it but I found big improvements from intermittent fasting (usually 16-18 hours).
Other things that I've continued that make some difference are peppermint tablets, probiotics and lansoprazole. I do think everyone is different and it's trial and error. I tried alverine, mebeverine etc and they didn't really help but have really helped dc1.
