Migraines towards end of period

I am having issues where at the end of my period, I get a debilitating migraine. I am a sole trader and teach, when I have to ring in sick, which is becoming every cycle... I lose about £100.

I need help but wondering if others can guide me what to say to the Dr? They've just said ibuprofen. The pain is so intense I have to lay in a dark room then will be running to and from toilet being sick. I can't be touched, I can't eat. Throbbing pain above my left temple. So intense. So much dizziness.

Just wondering if others been through it and how to heal?

I get these too, apparently it’s really common.

Bumping for you as I also would like to know what can be done about them!

Have you asked the doctor about Immigran?
I started with migraines in my 30's, linked to my period, and Immigran was the only thing that worked for me.

Once I hit menopause the migraines disappeared, but I still remember the awful pain and so I feeling so you have my sympathies.

I don't know the answer but I get this behind my right eye. People talk about pre menstrual migraine but never talk about post menstrual migraine

feeling sick

Ibuprofen? Clearly this GP hasn't even googled migraine recently.

The only thing that will touch mine is sumatriptan. Only if I catch it before it goes full throttle and I start to be sick with the extreme pain. When this happens I need an anti sickness injection, or it will continue indefinitely.
You definitely need to see a better doctor.

I had this for several years as well. Like a PP said, it has gone as I get closer to menopause. You have my sympathies, it's horrible and it was also affecting my job.

I did find that it was exacerbated by having an unmedicated underactive thyroid and blood pressure that was out of range, so maybe get those checked? Anaemia is another that causes headaches.

My friend had similar and found that sumatriptan helped on first onset of the migraine. Also a small dose of amytriptaline daily. Didn't work for me, but ibuprofen and codeine helped with some relief (they are designed to only be taken 3 times a day so have a slightly larger dose of codeine than cocodamol does).

Thanks everyone, I'm starting to come round a little but still suffering and very dizzy. No sick anymore, managed a bowl of muesli and greek yoghurt.

I definitely need it sorting, my poor clients will go elsewhere if this continues.

Sorry to hear so many suffer too. I went through a phase when extremely anemic having them but my iron always ok,ferritin used to be 3.7! But now is in 70ish range. I wonder if heavier periods meaning iron drops and causes it?

Thanks all. Good to discuss and share. I really appreciate it.
