Yes, yes, yes, but DD was 18 months.

I think you can put it in the bathwater.

whomovedmychocolate · 20/04/2008 19:52

I used olive oil when DD was 15 months old. Put it on, left it on for two hours while she legged it round the house bashing her head on the walls and leaving oily marks then washed it off. It did the trick!

ooh good idea!

and can almond oil cause allergic reactions?

I put olive oil on dd's scalp at bed time and combed the cradle cap out in the morning. I put it over her fontanelle but didn't apply too much pressure. HTH.

You might not fancy it but we used a special oil from the Indian store (dh is Indian) which they also use on their hair and it helped - alternatively we used coconut oil too for ds - both helped

whomovedmychocolate · 20/04/2008 20:01

Almond oil can cause reactions - olive oil is less likely too. You can either use baby shampoo to gently shampoo it off or an egg (again watch out for allergies).

I wash DD's hair once a month - unless she sticks her head in something unpleasant. And I do it in the bath but with no baby bath or anything in it.

We use a watering can, she likes it better than having water slopped over her head.

I've only ever used olive oil on my DS - seems to work reasonably well. Put it on 30mins/hour before bath and then rub it off with a sponge. You need a couple of washes though to avoid old man greasy hair

EffiePerine · 20/04/2008 20:02

I'd use olive oil rather than almond. Shampooing and leaving the suds on for a few minutes can help as well

It's a bugger to shift, but not harmful as such (just unsightly)

stuffitllama · 20/04/2008 20:09

we just used baby oil. has it not worked for you?

poodlepusher · 20/04/2008 20:48

Am currently using olive oil on my 4 mth old. Its taking a few days and I don't want to do it all at once in case I hurt her.

Will it never come back after I'm done - or will I need to do this every now and again?

Elibean · 20/04/2008 22:09

I used sweet almond oil with both my dds, worked as well as any oil and smelt much nicer than olive oil, IMO...rubbed it on all over cradle cap (can't remember if it included fontanelle, but think it did). dd1 has very sensitive skin, and mild eczema, and the almond oil worked especially well for her.

Elibean · 20/04/2008 22:10

Oh, and yes, it was neat - I got one bottle here, from my local chemist, and a lovely one in France when I went to visit my grandmother. That one smelt nice, extra bonus

we've just used apricot oil on dd (4.5mo) and it has worked a treat. she has LOADS of hair (see my pics!) and looked pretty greasy for a day or two but it has helped tremendously and is virtually gone. She has baby eczema too and it doesn't seem to have affected her badly in any way.
