Doctors won't give results over phone?

Hi friends!

Just worried and hoping to find out if this is bad news or just protocol. My partner had some blood tests done which showed that his liver enzymes were elevated. He then had a LARGE about of blood taken for more in depth testing and this all came back okay. The doctor sent him for an ultrasound aswell.

He already has an appointment on Friday for blood pressure as his came back high during the whole MOT. He called the doctor for the results and they said they will discuss them at his next appointment... any other tests (like blood tests) that we've had, have been given over the phone so far. This is obviously making us worry and think worst case scenario. Does anyone know if this is just protocol that they won't give him the results over the phone? Or do they only do that if it's bad news?

For context, my partner is 36 and had testicular cancer at 22 which required surgery. I'm sick with worry, we're 14 weeks pregnant and so scared.

It's protocol where I am. I wish they would!

@PuppiesLove just feels so cruel doesn't it! Fingers crossed it's just protocol 😭

Can he check his NHS app? The test results should be in there,

I tried looking for my results tab on my own NHS and can't even seem to find it! Do you know where abouts it would be @nells200

There might be some medication options or dietary discussions required and there isn't time to do that on a phone call when there is already an appointment booked, especially if other tests might also be needed. It's much easier and less stressful to discuss in person. It isn't necessarily a concern.

We wouldn't get any test results discussed on the phone here as it's the receptionist you speak to so it would either be an appointment to discuss or no appointment needed. That's it.

That makes a lot of sense @FoxtrotOscarKindaDay I think the weird thing here (north east of England) is the receptionist will happily call and let you know any blood test/urine test is fine. So when it's something like this you automatically panic when they can't tell you the results to these tests

A GP may send a task to the reception team to say they can let a patient know a test was normal/ nothing else is needed but the reception team is not qualified to discuss the details of any results or answer any clinical questions and so if anything at all needs explaining or qualifying (doesn't mean it's serious just that it requires more than a simple 'ok') an appointment is the time to do that.

Thanks friends. 💛

On the Home Screen there’s a link that says “GP Health Record”. If you click on that, ‘Test Results’ is the 5th option on the list.
