Eyes hurt

Hello

So I have dry eyes. I was told last week at a contact lenses appointment (which btw I don't wear contacts for that long in a day) to use drops 3/4 times a day.

I have been using them but my eyes hurt which make my head hurt. Second day now.

They're preservative free. Theoluz duo.

I stopped using them so much today but my head is still hurting. I don't understand what to do. Use or not to use? I have dry eyes but what's causing this..?

A warm damp flannel is said to help dry eyes

Go back to your optician and ask about a microwavable eye pack. Costs around £10. But do tell them about the pain, just in case there is more to it than just dry eyes.

Have you been outside much? The brightness of the sun hurts my eyes as I have light sensitivity- due to dry eyes.
id also recommend hycosan eye drops and the night gel, I have to use these daily. Although I think the one you’re using is supposed to be good too.

Hycosan does the same thing to me
Hurts my eyes. Stopped using them and started these.
Wasn't sure if I'm overusing now but can't be.
Child be sun sensitivity tbh. I'll wear my sunglasses.

Speak to your optician today, you need professional advice.

I have developed dry eyes as a part of Rheumatoid Arthritis. It's absolutely horrible. Itchy, sore eyes that have to be prised open some mornings.

I have found that using sterile eye wipes specifically designed to remove the gunk on the rim, followed by lubricating eye drops has made a big difference. BUT I am amazed at the difference that a heated eye mask makes. I had one that heats via a USB port, and decided to up it to one one that charges and as well as heating, vibrates and pulsates. It seems to make a huge difference.

My optician recommended these eye drops: https://www.aftpharm.com/product/hylo-fresh-au/

Although that is an Australian site, they are from a German company, so are probably available everywhere. I'm currently using the 2mg strength.

HYLO®-Fresh - AFT Pharmaceuticals

HYLO®-FRESH eye drops provide preservative-free relief from mild to moderate dry eye symptoms, delivered through the unique COMOD® multi-dose delivery system.

Optician here - if they hurt, you need to stop using them immediately.
Wait 24 hours, leave your lenses out and then if your eyes look white and feel okay, try another type of dry eye drop. It's often just a case of trial and error to get the one which suits your eyes.
The ones @Tezza1 has suggested are good, but generally anything containing sodium hyaluronate (so hycosan, systane). It may be that your eyes don't like sodium hyaluronate, in which case, if you have the same reaction go abck and see your optician.

Do not use an eye bag, they help a common condition called meibomian gland dysfunction which is easy to spot and the clinician you saw last time would have mentioned it. Heat bags make dry eye caused by aqueous deficiency worse, not better as the heat increases the evaporation of the water component of the eye.

Thank you so much - was hoping an optician would reply! As not sure if I can just pop in to Specsavers for something like this or need an appointment.

So I've been using these drops for over a year and been okay.. so I'm assuming it could be the sun? As I do have sensitive eyes.

If you have new eye pain, you need to stop wearing contact lenses immediately and see someone, it may be an infection. Call the opticians tomorrow, they should see you same day.

This this this this this.

Eyes are too important to risk.

I have very dry eyes. My optician said with such dry eyes I should never wear contact lenses. She said it could seriously damage my eyes. She said if any optician said to wear them to refuse and tell them to do a test for how much moisture my eyes make and they would realise that I should never have contacts. So perhaps a break from contacts for a few weeks?

Iamthemoom · 18/09/2024 20:26

Are you peri menopausal? Dry eyes was my first sign and it continued until I started HRT then resolved quite quickly. I had dry mouth at night too.

AdoraBell · 18/09/2024 20:27

For me it’s always tiredness or occasionally dehydration, but I’ve never used contact lenses.
