Feeling terrible - could this be Covid?

I woke up this morning feeling nauseous and it has got worse over the course of today. Really bad nausea, throwing up, achy, shivering. Have not felt this bad in years. Not having any respiratory symptoms but could it still be Covid?

I wish it was just a cold. I have lots of work on at the moment and some urgent deadlines but can’t even sit at my desk or focus.

food poisoning or a stomach bug I'd be more inclined to say than COVID especially in the absence of respiratory symptoms.

MassiveOvaryaction · 16/09/2024 19:10

Could be. I've had diagnosed covid 5 times (plus a couple more of suspected in days pre-testing). I have never had a cough with it.

Apparently LFTs are not as reliable in diagnosing the newer strains, so if you get a negative test it doesn't necessarily mean you don't have it.

Could also be food poisoning/stomach bug. Either way, rest and lots of fluids. And then more rest. Don't try and push through (I did and now have long covid).

Hope you're feeling better soon Flowers

Thanks. I don’t think it’s food poisoning but could be norovirus or something.

Based on your current symptoms, it sounds like norovirus?

If you get cold-like symptoms, it could be then be COVID.

Anoisagusaris · 16/09/2024 19:32

If only there was a test to find out.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 16/09/2024 19:37

LFTs aren't as reliable in detecting newer strains.

And yes, covid can produce GI symptoms (has done right back to the original strain). So yes this could be covid, or another GI bug/food poisoning.

I hope you feel better soon. As it could be covid, it's really important that you rest at much as you can.

And do not attend a workplace until 48 hours have elapsed without throwing up. Can you do the most urgent work from home?

If only there was a test to find out.

And pretty much anything could be COVID, in 2024 I'm surprised that's still a question that needs to be asked

Walkden · 16/09/2024 19:49

Could well be.

We've just been through a summer wave and I've knows dozens on people who caught the latest strain towards the end of the summer.

Cold shivery feelings, aches and headaches seem very common. Ace 2 receptors are found in the gi tract so it can cause nausea... For me I also got some mild sneezing and a slight runny nose but not after 4 or 5 days after initial symptoms

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 16/09/2024 19:56

I think I've got Covid ( for 6th time). Started off with bad headaches.. the D&V.
Then aching body.
Now coughing and sneezing like mad.
Blowing nose every 5 mins.
Coughs got chesty and my breathing shallow.
I think pointless to do tests now..
But just read about a new variant coming to the UK. The XEC variant.
I'm 66 and have other help problems.. if l get worse will call on my neighbour ( she's a Nurse practioner..).
Hope you feel better soon.

Does it matter what it is? Just have a day or two in bed, and then you'll be fine.

Rory17384949 · 16/09/2024 20:24

Could be but sounds more like a stomach bug to me.

GG1986 · 16/09/2024 22:25

I woke up feeling like this too! I think it's a norovirus. I only had covid in July so thinking it isn't covid. Get well soon.

I wouldn't rule it out based on this. There's good evidence that you can get a new infection (not rebound) in as little as 28 days (and some demonstrable cases of less).

My entire family is out with covid at the moment- all started with D&V.
