I have a horrible haemorrhoid it's so painful. I think it's an internal haemorrhoid that's popped out. Sorry for tmi. I rang gp as the pain was unbearable . After explaining to receptionist I was told to go to pharmacy.
It's not bleeding but very sore n won't go back in. I feel horrible and dirty and haven't been out to exercise all weekend as it hurts to walk and sit the pile cream is horrible and doesn't help at all. I don't know what to do . I am going to struggle to sit at work.. pharmacist just gave pile cream. Any advice?

You could try the activity I was told when I had post delivery haemorrhoids which is to use an upended chair or your bed head to raise yourself up ..back on floor or mattress..so that your bum is raised enough to drain the blood from the haemorrhoid and make it more possible to push it back in. The haemorrhoid cream should help to reduce the pain. if it doesn’t improve you need to see your doctor

QuestionableMouse · 15/09/2024 22:23

Oh bless you, it sounds awful.

Try an ice pack and a ring cushion?

When I was at urgent care last week, there was a woman in there to get hers looked at because it was so sore (She was talking about it on the phone) so maybe give your local one a try?

You're not dirty either, so try to stop thinking that!

Grmumpy · 15/09/2024 22:28

the nhs website says your go should see your go if the haemorrhoids are painful so if you are still in bad pain phone them again.

Grmumpy · 15/09/2024 22:28

Gp not go!

Rainagainandagain · 15/09/2024 22:32

Thanks. I feel all horrible with it, I have to wear a pad as I'm worried it will burst.. sorry for tmi but it's stopping me walking and exercising. So i feel all out of sorts with myself.. it looks horrible.

I had this in pregnancy. It was awful and I know how you feel about it feeling dirty and embarrassing.

What helped a bit for me was alternating the creams (germaloid and anusol), and whenever I was able to lie down, I took a thin ice pack, rolled it into a cigar shape in a flannel and held it between the cheeks as long as possible. (Obvs flannel went straight in the washing machine after). That shrunk it a bit, at least long enough for me to get on with my day.

Rainagainandagain · 15/09/2024 23:13

I can't sleep for the pain.. feels like a knife like pain.. oof!
I was constipated for 4 days so guess that's what has caused them and I sit all day at work.
I'm scared to goto loo incase it bleeds or pops out more. It looks horrible.

Dh had this and it burst - unf he was bleeding and ended up in a&e as GP wasn’t interested and he was wearing DD’s sanitary towels!! They were really good, did some manoeuvre on it and it shrunk (he said a surgeon happened to be passing through and they nabbed him), but he did have follow-up colonoscopy and he has another one up there - hopefully he will be able to prevent another issue! He’s suffered for years, more or less since we met in our 20s, but this was the worst ever.

If it's severe I'd think about getting seen somehow, somewhere. They can get thrombosis.

Hopefully you are sorted now Rainagainandagain
but for anyone else, who has the same problem of them coming out, exactly what you tried doing is the correct solution, pushing them back in, sadly I have a lot of experience of this so I have a lot of expertise also 😔. Similar to what Grmumpy suggested, but quite a lot easier. Mine come out after every BM, as I have grade 3s. So when it first happened to me I had no clue what to do like yourself, so I would just push violently, no effect what's the weather. Finally, I realised the obvious, they are stuck outside because they are like swollen balloons with a tiny base squeezing tightly on it (your butthole 😀), so the only way to get them back in, is just get a kitchen paper towel, fold twice and make damp, then just push gently against it. the second you start pushing gently the blood will be draining back into your body, and the hemorrhoid will be deflating, it will not seem like anything is happening, but just be patient! that is the key, after a few minutes might be longer for your first time obviously, you will find it is much more deflated and moveable, then just keep pushing and slowly moving it around, and you will find it will finally slip back inside, to its original position where it should be, and that will very simply instantly give you hopefully 100% relief, as it does for me now. If this does work for anybody, please, please, feel free to copy the technique and post it anywhere else you like, I don't want anyone else going through what I went through until I finally found out this really simple solution.

Dawn777 · 26/07/2025 02:01

Whoops! Forgot to mention, once you get them back in, always then either sit down (or lie down on your side or back if you prefer), for ideally at least an hour (or less if needs must), as these positions will always keep them in, it will also cement them back more permanently into their correct position. Do not! stand up or walk around, as this will make them drop out again.
Sorry about the "what's the weather" 🤣 in my post above by the way (I use dictation and I didn't notice in the 5 minutes!!! Mumsnet allow you to make edits - Why only 5 minutes??? - Mad!)

NannyOf8Girls · 26/07/2025 02:28

A GP prescription for Proctocedyl ointment brings almost instant relief from the intense pain.

Hi Dawn, were your's thrombosed? A family member has had these twice now and judging by the pain level described even attempting to touch it would be impossible, let alone push it anywhere. Luckily enough after a few days it eventually resolves with anusol, deflates and goes back to a normal colour; but is still visible outside, so afterwards you would advise pushing it back in? He is reluctant to go to the GP, well who wants to.

Dawn777 · 28/07/2025 03:53

Hi elf, I have had thrombosed before and exactly as you say they went down after a few days and then I pushed them back in although it was a while ago. Always a good idea to go to the doctor of course as obviously we are not experts, and they can tell them exactly what they have before they push them back in, but my standard practice is to push any which have prolapsed out back in again asap Before they stretch and get damaged.
