DD(10) Has warts all over her fingers, is having them frozen off necessary?

She does have lots of them, I keep treating them, but all that seems to be doing is making them worse. The worse one is on the palm of her hand, its awful, obviously I do not tell her this but when you hold hands with her you can feel it. I am worried that other DC will tease.
She has got them on more or less every finger(excluding thumbs) some of her finger have 2 or 3 next to each other, some go down the side of her finger nail, when I looked yesterday, it looks like she has now got a nest growing on several of her fingers just below her nails. Poor thing!

I have made an appointment at the Drs but have to wait over 3 wks to see GP. I could get an appointment on the actual day if I ring at 8am, but didn't think it was an emergency, just feel really sorry for her!

Anyone with any advice?

PS DD first got the one on the palm of her hand at least 4 yrs ago!
My other DD had 2 warts and they have both gone.

I used to have loads of warts and verucas. Freezing is very painful, I have a couple of scars on my hand from being treated. I gave up because they kept coming back, seven years since they first appeared they have now all gone on their own.

dd had about 6 on one hand.
They went within 2 years.
Freezing is painful and can cause scaring.
My GP was not happy to do it to a child.
We used over the counter wart treatment from Chemist.

Have also heard of duct tape and did do this too,

PeachesMcLean · 21/04/2008 23:02

Can you see the wart treatments you buy?

I've just developed one right on the front of my neck. Feels really prominent. Grrr... I wouldn't mind but the ones on my hands are disappearing, why do I have to get a new one just there?

pinkbubble · 21/04/2008 23:05

I am very sceptical about the duct tape, but am desperate so will give it a try! Can just imagine DDs face tomorrow!

If I only put duck tape on at night will it still work or does it need to be on 24/7 and changed regulary?

It makes the skin white and watery as it gets no air, so I would only keep it on for 2 days max and then clean area leave skin dry for a day or 2 and then repeat. Not sure what other suggest but that's what we did.

The best wart remedy is Occlusal but I don't know if you can buy it over the counter. You have to be mega persistent, though. For a child I'd say patience and not sharing towels is the best remedy.

pinkbubble · 21/04/2008 23:14

Thing is though, apart from DD3, poor old DD2 is the only one to suffer. DD3 managed to get 2 warts but they have disappeared with a bit of help from lotions and a bit of help from time. But poor old DD2 is still suffering. So i do not think sharing towels is the problem! (almost wish it was then it would be a simple solution!)

Obviously if you share a towel but you don't have broken skin then you don't catch warts. Trust me... stop sharing towels with someone who has a wart.

Here's a link to the BUPA factsheet on warts and just in case the message hasn't quite got through yet here's a quote...

Prevention
avoid direct contact with another person's wart
don't share towels with a person who has warts
don't share shoes or socks with someone who has a verruca
don't scratch or pick at a wart, this may encourage it to spread
wear flip-flops in communal showers

Try this natural remedy - soak a cotton bud tip or small bit of cotton wool in cider (or any) vinegar. Put it over the wart and change each day. It will eventually dry out and drop off in about a week.

SSSandy2 · 22/04/2008 10:28

you mean stick it on with a plaster on top? I'll try it. Dd has one under her eye though, can't really put a plaster on there, might try dabbing it with vinegar a few times a day though, can't harm. It's driving me nuts, I want it GONE
