My baby won’t walk after 12 Month Vaccinations

My 13 month old had his 12 month vaccine this morning and then went to nursery. At 4:30pm I got a call to say he’d woke from a nap and wouldn’t walk, stand or crawl or play. I immediately went to pick him up. He is usually very happy and running around / climbing.

He had been given paracetamol throughout the day as a precaution on the doctors advice. He is eating and drinking normally but quite tired. He is quite warm but no fever at the moment.

Has anyone else had this side effect? Is it just an achy leg or should I be concerned?

Did they give you the leaflet of side effects?

My partner took him to get the vaccines, he’s just shown me this - no mention about the lack of movement

If he had injections in his thighs then maybe his legs are just sore? I bet he’ll be fine in the morning.

Yes two in each leg, that’s exactly what my gut is saying but I thought I’d run it by Mumsnet and see everyone’s thoughts x

Does he have marks on his legs from the shots? Mine had some awful looking lumps from some of theirs.

Is he moving his legs normally, just not weightbearing?

Just tiny pin pricks, no lumps thankfully. Fairly normally yes, just not weight bearing.

My daughter had this problem after her 1 year jabs. It only lasted a day or two then went away. I put it down to her legs being sore from the jabs rather than any medical side effects

If he has been otherwise OK and can support his body weight in the sense of sitting up and not being floppy then it is likely that his legs are sore from the injection sites.

They can feel a bit off after their vaccines and not want to play, but I know it's hard to gauge what is a normal response and when to be worried.

If you are concerned it you could ring 111 and go through it all with a clinician and they will advise you whether or not he needs to be seen tonight or whether to see how he goes.

My eldest was exactly the same after her 12 month jabs, I put it down to her having skinny little legs but she was back to normal the next day 😊

Yes he has happily sat up for his meals and bath, my gut says it’s just some achy legs from the vaccines x

I know this thread is almost a year old but I stumbled across it whilst googling the same thing you posted about!
My little one had his 12 month immunisations yesterday afternoon and he was OK yesterday but this morning he's very grouchy and hasn't wanted to crawl or pull himself up and cries with discomfort whenever I move his legs (to changes nappies, put him in high chair, etc.) poor little souls, feel so bad seeing him like this as he's usually very active. And like you said he is also hot to the touch but doesn't have a high temperature so going to see how he is once he wakes up from his nap and possibly call 111 as a precaution.
Your little one will be over 2 by now so I hope he made a speedy recovery and I'm sure he is thriving :)
Take care
