Is this 'wet eczema' ?

Any ideas much appreciated. DD now 12 weeks and has had skin problems from couple of weeks. It started by redness in her creases. This first showed beind her ears at 2 weeks where they got very red then weepy with green stuff oozing out of them. This cleared on it's own. However this then progressed to neck, under arms, knees etc. Took er to gp who gave us daktacort and said he thought it was infected eczema. This cleared it initially and i thought that was the end of it however it has come back with a vengeance this week whilst we have been away. The pharmacist on holiday wouldn't give us daktacort for a young baby. So any ideas before i take her back to gp on Mon would be much appreciated.
Can you use daktacort long term ?

Young baby though. If it's weak already then switch to every other day.

lilyloo ds1 had eczema herpeticum which can be serious(as in fatal!) and was therefore treated aggressively which probably explains the long weaning off, but we still needed to wean carefully from the 0.5%- again he was young - under a year old).

I usedto coat ds1 in 50/50 before swimming. Or would coat then wet wrap. Ahh happy memories! (kind of, really).

yurt the daktacort does seem to be clearing it slightly but obv not working as when i stopped it it cam straight back it aslo looks like it takes a layer of skin off when i put it on. I feel so for her having to put the cream on so will def push for ab's just what she needs as she due her 2nd lot of injctions too this week.

It came up amazingly quickly. One day he had a weeping mole, next day he was blistered all over. And it was our introduction to a whole new different way of life (triggered his regression).

I do (weirdly) think back on that time as a good time though as it was his first year which was the happiest ear of my life. And so 50:50 is deposited in those memory banks and has become a 'happy' memory. I would recommend it for stubborn very dry eczema. DS3 suffers a bit I might try and get some for the back of his knees. I tried to wet wrap his legs but he was having none of it!

misdee · 19/04/2008 22:31

isnt dakacort used to treat thrush/yeast type infections?

i would go back to Gp and ask for iontment and not cream, as cream has a tendancy to slide off wet eczema, the greasy ointment sits on a bit better.

there is no magical cure for eczema, dd1 is 8 now and still suffers flare ups.

yurt1 · 19/04/2008 22:33

You might want to postpone the injections for a few weeks. It shouldn't do any harm postponing them (except for leaving her without a booster for longer- but they used to space them more anyway).

did i mmmj? blimey, that was a long time ago wasnt it?

unusually atm, dd2 is suffering a really bad flare up, i hate this time of year with all this changing weather, wreaks havoc with everyones skin.

lillyloo, i second the cotton clothing, i was super vigilant about it with dd1, and it did help. i have relaxed a bit now, but when she was a baby she was really bad.

misdee · 19/04/2008 22:36

oh yes, do leave the jabs until her skin clears a bit. dd1 always got really bad after jabs.

thanks all will def only use cotton clothing and will see about injections when i see gp.
Tbh i thought it would clear pretty quickly as ds and dd had eczema although not as bad when they were younger. DS 6 has now grown out of it but dd 3 has recurrentbouts on her knees etc but i have some oil for bath that seems to clear it but neither were as bad as this.

lilyloo · 19/04/2008 22:43

misdee · 19/04/2008 22:46

how much are you using? seems silly but could you cut the dosage in half? i always found the less i used the better the kids skin was.

lilyloo · 19/04/2008 22:48

could always try it i just tend to fill drawer.
Will have to look into this anyway as dd2 seems much worse than other dc's.

Thanks for asking tmmj sorry i didn't get back to you hectic day yesterday!
The doctor looked at it and has given me another cream for skin infections as he didn't think it was a good idea to carry on with the Daktacort. He has taken some swabs of the infection as he isn't sure whether it's infected eczema or a thrush / yeast infection. Typically it looked much better as i had been putting the cream on so didn't look green just pussy and white.
However the swab results will be back next Mon so will see what happens there. The cram i got this time was clotrimazole ?
Thanks for all your help and will let you know results next week
