High ferritin after years of anaemia

I've been anaemic for many years (probably 12 years) caused by heavy bleeding due to fibroids and polyps. I've had many iron infusions and one blood transfusion over that time, and it never got much over the low level.

In January I had a hysterectomy inc removing ovaries.

I had a blood test recently as I was feeling very low and the GP got my iron checked as it hadn't been since my operation and it was 446 ug/L!

My vitamin d was low so I have just finished 3 months of daily vitamin d tablet and my levels have gone from 30 nmol/L to 56 nmol/L and I feel my mood and energy have increased, and will continue to take vitamin d daily through winter.

My ferritin is now 416 ug/L, so lower but not by much.

I also had the FBC test and all ok apart from mean cell haemoglobin level is 33.0 pg so just above the higher limit of 32.2 pg

My question is this, is my ferritin high because of years of my body trying to keep up, and failing, it's still in produce it mode and it will take time to go back to safer levels? I am getting some symptoms of high ferritin in that I have pain in my joints (thought it was arthritis) and I have itchy skin and am still tired a lot and have issues sleeping. I am on hrt and use an antihistamine daily.

I've not got a follow up appointment booked but wondered if this was worth speaking to the gp about. From what I have read high ferritin is as bad on heart health etc as too low.
