Has anyone had this experience- heart rate

I'm just interested to know if anyone gets this.

Recently, I had a nasty gastric infection, I was in hospital and was quite sick had antibiotics and hydration. It's taken me ages to get over . Last week I had a very high regular heart rate suddenly and had to go to AE - all tests were fine apart from my bowel inflammatory markers which are still high but coming down . The feeling was it was because of the infection and it also turns out that I have got a viral throat infection at the same time.. ( this has been on and off for a few weeks)
It was horrible - it didn't come down for a few hours .
I had this once before a few years ago when I had a chest infection.
I'm just interested to know if anybody else has this similar issue and wondering if it's something that's going to happen every time I get a bad infection!
I'm in my 50s & post menopausal .

Palpitations can be a symptom of menopause, so perhaps it’s that rather than infection.

Pigeonqueen · 09/09/2024 08:03

I would put money on this being menopause as well. Since I stopped producing oestrogen at 37 (early menopause due to autoimmune issues) I have random sudden bouts of very fast heart beats - had lots of tests, echos, ecgs etc, all fine. When I’ve been on HRT it stops. When I’m run down or not well it kicks off again.

I have SVT and the two main triggers are infection and overheating.

Thanks for replies - it was very scary . @Pigeonqueen how do you manage it if you feel yourself getting run down ?
I wonder if I need to look at my HRT .

Sometimes rhe pulse can stay high at the tail end of an infection even once inflammatory markers, etc are normal. I recently had pneumonia and a persistent high pulse for a couple of weeks even when the infection had fully cleared.

Mine is exactly the same. Even if I don't get SVT my pulse will remain raised after infection.

Hi @rubyslipperss

What was your heart rate?

Do you wear a fitbit tracker?

Do you know what your inflammation marker level was? Was it CRP C-Reactive Protein that was tested?

rubyslipperss · 10/09/2024 23:56

Hi @JustLaura I don't wear a fit bit but when it was taken it was 115 but it had come down a bit and I was lying on the floor at that stage . It felt higher when it initially happened . My CRP was normal having been high previously but one of my bowel specific markers is still high .
